I'd like to get a good penny knife, or friction folder. I've seen a few Nordic ones, can't remember the maker. I am not looking for an expensive custom model, something production would be great. I saw a custom made one at the Chesapeake knife show last year, from a maker in TN, but I can't remember his name. Somewhere at the bottom of my backpack must be about a million business cards from knife shows:D.

I've always liked the looks of Opinels and Nontrons. Do you prefer having a friction folder with extended tang?

Perhaps a Svord Peasant folder?

Hiroaki Ohta makes a nice one with a modified Wharncliffe. The small versions in ATS-34 and ironwood are usually $200, but (non BF dealer reference removed)has one left for considerably less. It weighs less than one ounce.

Not sure what you consider "expensive" but Michael Morris here on the forums makes a wonderful friction folder starting at 90 bucks. I absolutely love mine and it gets used a good bit.

Other than those then I too would recommend ragweedforge.com and also Garret Wade for a traditional Japanese friction folder for 23 bucks. http://www.garrettwade.com/brass-cased-knife/p/02E05.01/

Thanks, I really like these.

Here's a fun little friction folder I made up from a Grizzly claw taken from a 100 year old rug.

Robin, sir, that is so absolutly totally cool!

A knife in a grizzly claw. Gotta love it!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Thank you Jackknife, There were 19 claws on the old rug, so far most have turned into folders and one fixed blade and a couple of giveaways to Native friends. They are real attention getters.

Best regards

Robin

Here's another.

You guys got me again. I can't believe I had never seen the higonokami before. I like the simplicity and had to order one.

While browsing this site I found the French ringlock knives. They look like a classier version of an Opinel. I don't know whether to be disappointed or relieved that they don't have the wenge or ebony versions in stock.:D

There's a site... hang on, lemme find it... where you can get Opinels in all sorts of shapes and materials.
Here: OpiKnife
I haven't ordered from them yet, but I think there are some people who are going to get some of these as presents from me in the near future.

Great pics everybody. Thanks. I am going to get a Svord Peasant, a Michael Morris, and a ML.

Who wants to pay my cc bill? :)

Robin,

That one is a drop dead beauty!. I really like it! What is the blade length and closed length?.. And what did you make the sheath out of?

Thanx,
Anthony
