I bought one of Rick's extreme duty aluminum pens at the NYCKS and liked it so much that I sent it to my brother in Israel. (They say it can knock those rockets right out of the air with one well placed blow and the proper technique!) ;)
Anyway, I have to replace it. Are there any differences between the titanium and aluminum ones other than a coolness factor? Does it pay to get the deluxe set? What modular pieces do people recommend? Thanks for your input.

Great gift. I'll hold off on geopolitical comments but will say...may our allies with the aid of good defeat every terrorist as determined by not only his actions but beliefs.

Now, that said. The Ti has the coolness factor and the aluminum has the "affordability". I went aluminum. I will say that while the aggressive end options have an appealing look, many lack threads. So if you swap an end for something more pointy, you might be left holding a cap.

Has anyone here actually bought the titanium deluxe set? Are you happy with it? Is it necessary to have all those parts?

Necessary? No. But if you like options and want them, then it's fun to own.

I do not have the Ti, but like I mentioned...I've got a lot of the bits in aluminum.

Honestly, the cap being a separate piece is the only thing keeping this from being a strong primary EDC writing tool option. If a clicky style pen is ever offered, it will replace my SF.

Need2Know: Thanks for the feedback. I got the kubaton deluxe set in titanium, flame anodized color, random pattern. It's really cool, and the pen is very smooth to write with. One question, in your first picture above, with the cord there are 2 pins. I presume they're used for tightening. Are they inserted into holes opposite each other and serve as handles to tighten, or is there some other way they're used? Thanks.

Thanks Mike. I also got it with the long body. It seems bigger than I imagined. For a regular writing pen, should I have gotten the short body? (By the way, beautiful bike!)

Hammer answered the first question. I'm happy if you found anything I posted useful.

I cannot answer the second question. The parts you see in my photos are about the only ones I have.

The benefit of the aluminum pens are their light weight & it's scratch resistant hard anodizing. I refer the titanium pens because I do not have to worry about scratches because I can just throw the whole pen in the stone washer for a new finish, not to mention many colors can be had with DIY anodizing. I like the hefty weight of the titanium for a EDC pen.
For the price the aluminum pens are money well spent.
