Had a bitch of a week and weekend. Started this week at 4am driving 300miles for a 9am meeting in J'burg to find it had been moved forward to 8am. This meant upping cruise speed to 105mph. The project went from bad to excellent and I went out for a late breakfast. Dropped into the local knife shop to find them taking in their SOG shipment to stock. I luckly had my name down for some 6months (and the cash on hand) so I walked out with my new baby.

What a good start to a week and month. Only problem is that wifey has had her eyes on one for herself. It is a great ladies knife.

:p

Whoops, the Pentagon is the blade in question.

Best buy and service is Sharp Edge, Sharp Shooter in Sandton City. It is like Christmas each time I walk in. They have some of the discontinued SOGs that were not so popular. The multitools and Tsunamis X42s are still available. The Pentagon and a couple of others are difficult as they are popular.

These guys hold most of the South African Franchises for Victorinox, Sog etc. They also have enthusiasts as sales managers.

This is where my transport allowance dissapears.

Congrats, Tim! I hope you plan to use your Pentagon, because it's a fantastic knife!

A word of caution, especially since a replacement Pentagon would mean another six month wait:

Be careful applying stress on the point. The Pentagon is a frighteningly effective stabbing design thanks to that double-edge needle tip, but there's a trade off to that performance. It doesn't take too much strain to "pop" a few milimeters off the tip.

Then you'll have to carefully regrind the point and the results will look a lot like SOG's "Shark Tooth Tip" on the folding Pentagon Elite. (I think someone at SOG invented that tip the same way I did). :p

It is travelling on my belt back to Bots today. It is going to do battle with the Tsunami for daily carry. I will make a nylon sheath for it this easter for carrying inside my trousers.

My family just can't understand why I don't emmigrate to UK or Oz. Imagine not being able to carry my toys?

Got to use it this weekend with a surefire g2, scared the heck out of the intruder. I have taken to using it as EDC and it has helped protect my family.

Our Jnr South African director, the one who emphatically denied the need for self protection and knives was hijacked in our ' high security ' area of a high security building in Sandton yesterday morning 6am.

Nice score, Tim! I've always wanted a Pentagon myself!
From what I remember Sandton used to be such a nice upper class area in Joburg, I used to frequently that area for yum cha and movies when I was a kid. Look at it now.... Oh well, those were the good old days.

Sandton is a very exclusive area. People who live there tend to live behind high walls in enclaves. The shopping centre is great but the rest sucks. We have had countless carjackings and incidences of violence against my coworkers it is very worrying.

The gun control has gone stupid and is only matched by the crime. The per capita death rate from violence is slightly above Iraq. The AK47 is refered to as the affirmative credit card.

The Pentagon will be with me for some while. Can't afford bullet proofing.
