That's great news, are shippments leaving SOG at this time for dealers? or will it be a couple weeks before we'll see them?

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Ken,

I'm not quite sure if any have actually been shipped...but I'm sure it is a matter of a couple of days or so (but not sure, exactly).

Ron, are you planning a plain edge version of this beast? Looks good!

Hi Guys,

There are no plans right now for offering a production model of the PE2 without serrations. We are, however, considering offering a limited production run for a serrationless model if there is enough interest. If you are interested, please contact us.

I believe that we are going to stay with the beadblasting.

Hope this helps!

Looks like it's time to buy myself another SOG. A 5" blade and an Arc Lock? Very nice.

If SOG's AUS8A heat treat is nearly as good as their 440A heat treat, the steel should be be quite good.

Hey Ron, how strong is that clip? It looks kind of weak.

I would .love. to see a mirror polished or satin finished plain edge version.

Ron, I think you should consider a "BF Special" run of PE2s. Polished blades, plainedge, and a funky colored grip if possible

. Check with Mike and Spark on how well the red Carnys and Sifus did first.

Hi Ron, is the handle same as the old PE? Zytel i believe? I saw it says there's steel lines, it should be much sturdy than the old PE right? The only thing i dont like the old PE is the handle kina cheap, i knw it reduce the weight and all that but just 2 light and not the best handle i want. Guess i'm just picky

. Oh, any plan on a black-Ti coated blade? Kina worry about the rusting problems on bead blasted blades. Thanks.

Ron,

Thanks for the info on the clip. It's good to have a track record from the previous version of the knife.

Very nice knife Ron ..... love that 5" blade with the partially serrated edge! Can't wait to try out that Arc Lock!

Hi Sharp,

You said regarding Zytel and the PE2: "I saw it says there's steel lines, it should be much sturdy than the old PE right?" My question is, have you had a bad PE which handles are defective (if so, please send it in)? As the Consumer Services & Warranty Manager for SOG, I have NEVER once had one of our Zytel handled knives break, crack, bend, or become otherwise defective (I take that back, I had a SEAL Knife which was dropped over 100 feet while rock climbing and an AutoClip which went through a house fire). Though Zytel is an inexpensive material and may not have the appeal of exotic handle materials (like Micarta, Titanium, or leather, among others), it is among the most outstanding materials I have ever seen and am personally 100% sold on its being first-rate!

By the way, steel liners have now been added to the ArcLock version of the PE for structural issues related to the lock.

The choices for Zytel are: Strength, affordability, excellent grip, and versatility (easy to mold into various shapes). Affordability is key here. Our goal is to sell a ton of these. This PE2 is only $99.95 and will make many, many more people actually buy it than if it were say $200 with other handle materials.

My personally nitch in knifedom is tactical and high-end folders. So I like exotic handles. But in this case, I agree that Zytel is the right choice. I hope that you will agree.

I sincerely thank you for your comments. Please feel free to share anytime here in the SOG Forum.

I like this knife. Looks like a good companion for my Jet Edge. Are any internet dealers carrying the PE2?

Ron, you forgot one more Zytel characteristic: it doesn't slowly shred pants material the way G-10 can, depending on how it's finished. The Sifu's finish does indeed have that effect...as I prefer sheath carry on that piece, it's not an issue for me...but as the PE2 will be the pocketed backup, having it in Zytel is actually a plus.

If you're going to pocket-clip-carry a Sifu, get the Carbon Fiber version
