I have several BM Axis lock knives and am also curious about a couple of the Arc-lock SOG models, particularly the PE II and the Visions with the Zytel handle scales (either large or small).

Are there any comments on how they hold up over time, and are the pivot screws adjustable...that is, can one apply a little blue Loc-tite to the pivot if it loosens over time? How well do the lock springs hold up in extended use (or just repeated opening/closings as such designs are wont to encourage? :)

I really like these two designs and hope to handle them soon.
Thanks for any comments.

Hello James Y,
I own a X-Ray mini vision, a Night vision, and several other SOGs. The 2 listed above are, by far, the best I have ever owned, bar none. The arc lock is as smooth as silk after thousands of openings and closings, (I sit and watch tv and do this repeatedly).
The pivot can be adjusted, but probably won't ever need it because they come from the factory very smooth, and the more you use them, the smoother they seem to get.
I think BM makes a wonderful knife, Of course every one has their favorite knife, and mine is the arc lock SOGs I think (but I love the FLASH 2). Go to your favorite knife store and use your regular opening and closing hand, get one of both models and try it for yourself.
I think you will see how smooth they are, and I have never had any problems with the springs at all. I don't own a PE 2, but tried one and it is also smooth and fast. I just liked the mini x-ray better. I think most, if not all SOGs come with loc-tight already, so you won't have to worry about loosening, mine never have, and I have had them over year now. For the price, and the steels SOG uses, I don't think you can go wrong, good luck.

James,
First of all, the PE II is a BIG folder! With its 5" blade, it is 10.75" long when open!

I really like the Arc lock also, it is well done. (I also have a couple of the Axis lock - also excellent!)

:o

Both have excellent reputations, and you should try them. The X-Ray vision is a very different knife (IMHO) than the PEII; what are you going to "use" them for... if you're like me, then just opening/closing them is it... a training blade would probably be enough, but wouldn't have the cool factor! ;) :D

I've handled the PE and PEII. Both are Sweet blades and I hope to have a PE II some time this year. It's really fast and smooth.

Thanks for the comments, guys!
I got to handle a mini-X-ray Vision and a PEII and think both are very cool, would like to also handle the regular-sized Vision, too. The PE II is great as it is a mega-folder but with the Arc-lock, perhaps the largest folder with a lock in this category!

Once again, thanks for the suggestions. :)

The Vision with G10 is VERY smooth and has a feel of quality.
The mini X-Ray is also smooth.
The larger X-Ray, IMO, without the liners of the Vision just does not have the quality feel, plus it is Zytel handles.
The X-Ray just does not have the smoothness and feel of the Vision or even the Mini X-Ray...

I just recieved a PE II in a trade today and it's one big folder. This is the first Arc-Lock I've ever handled and to be honest, I like it better than the Axis lock. It's very smooth, though I do wish the handle had a space in the middle. It has a decent bit of flex if gripped tightly.

I got a PE II yesterday new in the box at a gun show and I like it a lot. It operates surprisingly smoothe, esp. for a knife of this size. The only other "mega-sized" folder that I own is an X2 Voyager, which is actually larger than the PE II (6" blade), but is nowhere near as smoothe or comfortable.

I have several Axis locks, which I am a fan of, and find I like the Arc-lock a lot, as well. In spite of its weight/solidity, it's surprising how easy it is to carry, too.

I have a PEII. It's my favorite knife. To the untrained eye it looks a little awkward, but in your hand it is pure power. The pentagon is a dagger style knife, which is clearly shown in pictures. But what you can't in a picture is how thick the blade is and how smoothly it flicks open. Push the blade open a 1/4 of a inch and flick your wrist and "kla-klak". The five inck blade is lock securly in place, and it closes just a fast. It is big, fast, and affordable. Everyone that likes knives and has a few extra bucks need a PEII. The only down side to this knife is that it might be "too much", which is just enough for me.

Nothing succeeds like excess... I have one too, and it does "flick" open nicely... :D

As stated, it also carries with surprising ease. ;)

PE 18.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good sheath for the PE Elite II?

Any help would be much appreciated?

Hiya Shonsim,

Did you ever find one? I had to make my own, one upright and the other horizontal. I only use the horizontal so if you want the upright let me know.
