Has anyone ever seen a SOG Pentagon with a wooden handle? I saw one once in a shop in New Mexico and haven't seen one like it since.

Yes, there was a limited run of Pentagons with cocobolo wood handles, brass guard, and brown leather sheath. I believe there were 250 of these made and they were all stamped with a number on top of their brass guard. I'm not sure when they were made but I do know it was 1997 or earlier. My best guess would be between 1993-7. I've seen these on eBay come up about every couple of months or so.

If the one you saw in the New Mexico shop is still there, I would buy it provided it were mint and under $150.00 or so and with the original box and papers. They are highly prized by SOG collectors "in-the-know".

The normal original Pentagons had a checkered Kraton rubber handle, steel guard, and black leather sheath.

There was also a wood-handled version of the SOG NW Ranger - limited to 250.

There were also stacked leather versions of the SOG Desert Dagger and the SOG Government models. Both numbered and limited to 250 and with brown leather sheaths instead of the normal black sheaths. These were made around the same time period as well.

Wow! I know the lady at the Las Cruces store. If its her store and she still has it she may have it for sale at retail. I think I'm gonna call her. Tee hee!

In 1994 I bought four SOG knives, each stamped no. 78 out of a run of 200 (or so I was told...)
They are the Pentagon and North West Ranger with cocobolo handles, and the Government and Desert Dagger with stacked leather handles. All four have brown leather sheaths.
