People Can Spend Years in Prison for the 'Crime' of Flipping. Is that Okay with You?

Hello,

I am hoping for your support in a petition to legalize ownership of balisong knives in all 50 states. I hope you agree that these laws are outdated, harmful, and a waste of taxpayer resources.

(( solicitation removed ))

If you can spare 3 or 4 mouse clicks and few key strokes, your signature really helps demonstrate that voters aren't gullible enough to be duped by politicians trying to look tough on movie stereotypes of crime rather than real crime.

Thank you for reading.

Fellow Knife Enthusiasts,

I am asking for 3-4 mouse clicks and few keystrokes to help support a petition to stop sending people to prison for participating in what is essentially a form of dance.

I hope you agree that these laws are unreasonable, unfair, and the result of politicians thinking voters believe everything they see in mafia or Hong Kong action movies.

I hope you would also agree that legalizing balisongs might be an easier sell to the general public than automatics or so-called 'gravity knives,' and would open the door to ending persecution of people who just want to own good tools for work or their hobbies.

Thank you for taking the time to read and consider signing. Every signature really helps to show that voters aren't as gullible as politicians think they are.

Welcome.

Even if you DID include a link to click on, and despite the fact that I agree with your cause, I wouldn't even click on your link until I knew who you are.

Don't "do" blind links from strangers.

Nothing personal.

Why only 1000 votes. What's 1000 going to achieve.

Electronic votes sounds dodgy. Say 1000 people did vote, how would anybody know that those 1000 people were real AND lived in the U.S?

So...who is going to see this thing? And how is it going to change the laws in every state? One state at a time? Or do you expect the Supreme Court to see it and declare anti-balisong laws unconstitutional?

Butterfly knives are already legal in my state

Mine, too.... And most of the places in the U.S. I've been. Some auction sites restrict their sales/resales, and I'm sure some states don't allow them, but many do.

Technically the balisong is legal in the U.S...

And it looks like they are only illegal in California (outside one's home), Washington, Hawaii, and New Mexico.

Sure, lets get them legalized in those few remaining states....

But has anyone gone to prison for carrying one in one of these states?

State wise it's legal in California as long as it's under 2in just like switchblades. Though a lot of local laws still outlaw it.

Prison over it, possibly but not for just carrying it as it was probably combined with other offenses and this was just tacked on to add a harsher punishment as a get tough on crime stance.

Whats interesting about California is that we have a lawmaker who fought to keep our spring assisted knives legal for us as they saw real use for it for fire/law enforcement/ems and other fields. I seriously doubt we see balisongs and switchblades restrictions fully removed in California in my lifetime, in fact I am surprised we have that under 2in leeway instead of an outright ban.

Isn't KNIFE RIGHTS already working on legalizing them, and automatic / switchblades where they are not legal?

So we can assume that the claim that this is a

... a petition to stop sending people to prison for participating in what is essentially a form of dance..

is exaggeration.

This is the same in my case, I carry a Bali every day....No worries here...I can also carry D/A autos here, fixed blades, pistols, AR15's......I am glad I live in one of the free states.

Yes. And they are where to put your money.

They were directly responsible for eliminating essentially all knife laws in TN two years ago. Got preemption the first year, then next year every type/length of knife legal to carry, concealed or openly.

Again, join KnifeRights.org. And throw them some extra bucks from time to time too!
