hello, Im in CA and was thinking about have some sort of "legal" object to keep in the car in case of an "unfriendly confrontation". No knife or guns, something that can be put out of the way, easly acessable and sheeple friendly. I was also thinking of something I can make like a 2 foot piece of re-bar or something. I once had a 6 cell maglite in the car once.

Also, what is the law for carrying knives in cars anyways? can I keep my 16" khukuri under my seat?:D

- full size shovel
- heavy-duty lug wrench
- 1/2" drive breaker bar
- Hi-Lift jack (so it's a tad on the heavy side)

In some cities it's illegal to have a 3D or larger Maglite in the front seat. But I don't use Maglites so that doesn't matter to me. I like my Surefires.

High Output V8.

If that don't work, my EDC and a Surefire. I still have a 6 D Mag, and thought of putting it in the Grand Cherokee, but figured a valet would steal it like the Photon III that used to be on my keyring.

Never thought a flashlight would be banned from the front seat. Hmmm.

I suspect most cops would frown upon a 18" piece of 5/8 rebar though. Especially with a duct tape handle.

My Emerson Commander is always very handy. A 2oz can of pepper is also very handy. Next is my Surefire L4. A camping hatchet is often within reach, as is a 4 or 6 cell Maglight. If worse comes to worse, a rolled up magazine can do some pretty good damage as well...

Baseball bat WITH glove and used softball-the latter tranforms the former from a weapon to a toy.

Spyderco Matriarch in driver's door storage thing, fixed-blade knife in the glove compartment. There's no special law for knives in cars.

Cold Steel sharpend Special Forces shovel behind seat (I drive a PU) and a 14" Gorilla prybar. Though I have these more for utilitarian use, they do make good improvised weapons.

Good topic!

Don't forget you already have decent weapon....the vehicle your driving.

Good idea about the car but lets say your car broke down at night in the bad side of town and your sitting there waiting for the tow truck and some bums want to start stuff with you.

I keep the car really clean (luxury sedan),its not a working utility vehicle so having a breaker bar or tire iron inside the car isnt "clean" or visually pleasing and sometimes its not as practical as protection if its in the trunk so Im still looking for something to keep inside the car under the seat that is clean, visually appealing and effective as an improvised weapon. Maglites are the only thing I can think of right now. Open for more suggestions.

ESCRIMA STICKS...

I don't live in CA but i do carry 2 escrima sticks stowed away beside the seat. Hardly noticeable. It's a lot faster to hit than a baseball bat as it's a lot lighter. You can get a few hits in before a guy can ever swing that baseball bat. I doubt anyone can take a full blast hit with a 1 1/4 inch thick stick to the neck/wrist and still go on.
