Threads by folks who don’t know what the Search button is for:

“Hi! I just got interested in knives, and have a few questions about some of the brands and types:

--Spyderco. What’s with the hole? And the weird blade shapes!!! My old man carried a bowie. Are these science fiction knives? Are they related to Mantis?

--Benchmade. Some of them have a button in the front. These seemed to be called “axle locks”. Is there a front wheel and a rear wheel? I don’t get it; can somebody explain?

--Tops. Are they really the best?

--Ka-Bar. These look familiar. Has anybody important ever carried these?

--Slip joints. Is this a kind of knife carried by druggies, who use it to hand over some weed?

--Chris Reeve. They have a knife I just heard of called a Sibinza. Is it any good? Does the fact that this is Superman’s company mean anything?”

“I’m thinking of getting a knife. What would you recommend?”

Yeah, but if all the newbies and everyone else used the search function, to whom would we demonstrate our knowledge and sophistication on cutlery matters?

Then, I would not be able to say "Smachet" as a recommendation to everyone!

Or most of all... How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?!?!?!?!
:D JK

I generally don't have a problem with things like that. I do however get annoyed with the " Only 1 knife" thread as the have been done over and over again.

personally, i would rather someone post their own question than join just to use the search function. at least it gets them involved in the community instead of lurking around in year old threads. also, it takes no longer to actually use the search function and post a useful link than it does to post "USE THE SEARCH NEWB!". i'm just saying.

Moved to a more appropriate venue for people who don't know what "General Knife Discussion" means... ;)

Plus, if your desired search item/category is broad enough, you might get a few thousand threads in the search return...

You know, some might say that if you had used the search function, you would have seen that this is not the first time this subject has been entertained.

Ok, I'm joking. But just barely. :)

And consider that if we did not repeat ourselves - including the other threads exactly like this one - about 90% of what we talk about would disappear. So repeating ourselves is a large part of what keeps this place going. And its real easy not to click on the 900th thread titled "Inexpensive EDC?" or "Pocket fixed blades?".

But I get where you are coming from. I too grow a little weary of answering the same question 300 times. :) But if we show a little grace to newbies, before you know it they aren't newbies anymore and they are using the search function.

GRACE, GRACE !!!!!!! BUT that would cause people to think this is a nice, fun, friendly site.

Yeah, but if all the newbies and everyone else used the search function, to whom would we demonstrate our knowledge and sophistication on cutlery matters?
Answer: Who are uptight sheeple.
I'll take "Famous Cannibals" for $600...
