Pepper spray redux

So I got two bottles of 2oz Fox Labs spray, one for me and one for a girl.

Today, I asked her if she'd start carrying it, and she sorta freaked out. I dunno why. She kept saying I was paranoid, that it was too much, it was heavy, too big, too extreme measures to take.

Whatever. So I showed her what extreme measures were. I showed her my pepper spray, the .25 inch steel clipboard in my backpack (newly repainted, VERY sweet), my Strider SLCC I carry IWB, and my delica clipped to my boxers. I said, "all im asking you to carry is a 2 oz. spray bottle." She flipped out. Understandably, I suppose.

So how do you get someone to prepare for defensive measures like that? She won't carry the spray (and she was actually kinda pissed at me...) or the Benchmade griptilian that I gave to her last year. I know you guys are on your toes, and I know you have people that you care about. How do you convince them??

Two years ago, I gave another friend a delica. He never carried it and when we were working he'd always ask to borrow my knife. So one day I got a group of my friends together, jumped him, and put him in a burlap sack that, if he'd had his knife, he could have cut himself out of. It didn't go as we'd planned, but he got the idea, and he's carried it/used it ever since.

Think I should jump her? :) :) :)

Any ideas?

thanks, take care guys.

Sometimes a good scare can wake up people, maybe you can jump her in a fashion that would tell her hey if you had pepper spray right now you would not have gotten jumped. Good luck.:)

Absolutely.

Oh wait a minute. You mean "trying to scare her into carrying pepper spray".

Don't forget Murphy's law - The one time you try to scare someone into carrying a weapon is probably going to be the first and only time they have it on them and ready.

Anyways, you're probably wasting your time. Even if she had it in her purse, how often do you think she'd have it so she could get to it in a hurry?

Given the choice between easy access to a makeup bag, or easy access to pepper spray..

Well, you get the idea.

Most people are utterly blind to danger.

No, I don't exactly get the idea... Like, she would use her makeup bag as a weapon over pepper spray? Hmmm... This gets me thinking about a new project. .25" steel makeup bag... :)

I also bought two cans of pepper spray, one for me and one for a female friend, but I chose the ASP Palm Defender. It's small enough that she carries it. Sometimes.

We also bought a test can/insert and did a simulated jumping. Though in retrospect, it was pretty dumb to do it out in the open, because some well-meaning person might have called the cops.

Midget, don't take this the wrong way but there are a lot of EDC people around here and you are the first one that I am aware of who carries a steel plate clipboard. :D

I don't know the circumstances but I would advise starting with the Delica and leading up to the heavier firepower. If you really like the girl, get her a Ladybug or Cricket or some other cool little knife in a bright color.

Plenty of time for matching Bagwell bowies (and chest trauma plates) when you two settle down together.

i say jump her--give her the best dam loving she ever had and tell her if she doesn't start carring the spray she'll get it even better the next time--she'll carry the spray-LOL

Start slow. Get her one of those ultraloud signal whistles for her keyring.

I would say forget about trying to scare her into it. Some people are so opposed to the idea of defending themselves that they would rather be a victim that think of doing anything "violent". My suggestion is dont pressure her about the tools and make her aware of the reality around her. Let her know about crimes etc that happen in the area. Read the crime blotter our of the paper to her ;)
