I think I'll make myself one of these this weekend, just for the fun of it! :D

Or if you want to try one out but don't have the time or motivation to do it yourself, someone is selling them on e-bay for 8 bucks with shipping. . .

I want to try building a couple of them though, because it seems like it might be useful thing to know how to do in an emergency situation. If you can get your hands on a couple of cans and a bottle of alcohol you can have a stove. I'm going to try to make mine without using any tools except my Swiss Tool.

I need to start using the search function before posting new threads. . . I just saw that there was another discussion about these recently. My apologies. :foot:

Here is a teaser. I took this pic a couple months ago. The stove is about 5 years old.

I built one based on this model: http://www.csun.edu/~mjurey/penny.html

Works pretty good, but I get inconsistent results having it reliably ignite. Probably needs some tweaking on my part. Seems like the side burner models are a better design since you can place a cooking container right on top of the burner.

Andrew, different stoves will be able to use different fuels. Mine works well on denatured alcohol, but will not run on isopropyl. I think some of the tuna can w/ insulation stoves would work fine on isopropyl.
