Im kind of a newbie here when it comes to knife lexicon and nomenclature. Could someone please indulge me and provide insight to the term %lockup? Ive seen pictures of knives for sale claiming 50% lockup, etc. What part of the locking system is at 50%? Is it 50% of the lockbar face that engages the blade or is it 50% of the blade tang that is caught and wedged by the frame/liner lock?
Also, how does the increase of %lockup imply a reduction in remaining service life of the locking mechanism? I figure the greater lock surface area engaging the tang implies a stronger locking system? What am I missing?
