Obscure title, but appropriate.

I took the family on vacation the past couple of weeks. Went down to see my folks in Colorado Springs and thence to Los Alamos for a family reunion.

Since my parents live in a semi-rural area, I took my BA-III as a bumming around knife. We made some great willow whistles with it, which entertained my children and nieces and nephews as well. While I was harvesting willow switches (something the blade handled quite well), my father made an off-hand remark about how "huge" the knife was. My first thought was, Huh? Remember, this is just a little BA-III, not the Uncle MoFo or a BM. Puzzled me, but I let it pass.

A couple days later, my nephew came up and asked if I had ordered a "huge knife". I had, in fact, asked to have the Groove Master (*) I won on eBay delivered to Mom and Dad's address so it wouldn't languish in the post office while we were away. Again, my reaction was Huh? It's not like a GM is a beast of a blade.

Anyone else have experiences like this? I guess it's just part of the knife thing that you either get it or you don't. There's little middle ground.

(*) Kind of disappointed with this knife. It is in brand new condition (crinkle black with snakeskin), but the fit and finish of the handle slabs is about 1/16th off center. The upper tang lies below the slabs and the lower part is proud by the same amount. Any suggestions on how to remedy this?

Rick

Even though the Groove Master wasn't probably cheap in price, it is a production knife, not a custom. I have seen the slight mismatch before, it didn't really bother me. You could have Busse re-handle it, they might charge for it and you would be without it for awhile. If it is going to be a user and it really bothers you while using it, I would sand the sides to match, thus giving the spine a polished look, kind of like some of the custom knives. INFI tends not to rust, so that shouldn't be a problem. Just my thoughts.

Interesting you bring this up. I was using my Rat Trap (sorry I know wrong forum ;) ) to cut some packing material when I was helping my sister move some furniture recently. I was the only one that had anything that could be used to cut because everything else had been packed. Instead of the " Wow it's great to have a knife" comment, I got the "What do you need something so huge for? " I thought to myself, "to cut your packing material of course ;) "

Good topic.

:D:D

It is always funny to me how for some people, anything over a pen knife is a machete... ;)

4 of the Matradee's (sp?) complimented me on my Uncle :D

People are just naturally gonna think knives are too large. But I simply just tell them about the torture tests Busse knives have gone thru and that usually erases all the propaganda from their minds.

Rick,
Thank you for sharing your photos. I get the same reaction from people when I am using these knives. But they are impressed with the performance.
Eric, I can relate with your Rat Trap experience. I have used mine a few times and people are in shock. "Where do you keep such a huge knife?"
Dan

i got the comment "oh man, thats a huge shank... is it legal to carry a knife?"

and he honestly beleived it wasnt... several people at work said my knives are huge - and dont get me wrong, they are when you compare them to my leatherman, but the fact that everyone calls it a shank is saddening...
