I just recieved my Doug Ritter RSK MK1 mini in yellow with the S30V blade (amazing blade!). I also recieved my Wilkins grips in orange G10 for the mini. Couldn't wait, and put it together during lunch at work. I definately have found my EDC carry knife for the forseeable future!

The RSK came with the standard black hardware, screws, pivot bolt, and pocket clip. I requested a set of silver/natural color from Benchmade. I'm planning to clean up the pocket clip back to a natural finish. Whats the best method for doing this?

Thanks.

I sand my clip with wet/dry 320 grit sandpaper to remove the black then finish the clip with 600 grit. That's my method, I'm sure others will suggest what works for them:thumbup:

I hear a dremmel works great.

Hey, 871182, could you keep us (read: me) updated on how you do sharpening it. I have the same knife, and while I can get a useable edge on it--e.g. it easily and cleanly slices paper--I cannot get it to shave. Hours on my Sharpmaker, leather strop and 3M microsheets are fruitless. Thanks and good luck with the clip.

karlmaidensnose, I'm having the same problem. This blade tears up some paper. But I can't seem to get is shaving shape either.

I'm still at work, I'll see what I can do for you when I get back to the bricks about those pictures!

871182 I know exactly what you mean.
I got a Large Ritter with M2 steel and then I got the WilkinsGrips. The knife hasn't left my side since then.
For me it's the ultimate EDC. Fortunately, I do not share the sharpening issue's you and KarlMaldensNose have.

I have a Orange Mini Ritter in my BIG photo thread in the gallery

Nice combo

does he still sell the M2 Mk1? i haven't seen it on aeromedix or his site...

I have read to soak the clip in hot water and then use paint stripper and the black finish comes right off, haven't tried it myself though.

On the sharpening issue, I can get my mini Ritter(s30v) shaving sharp by stropping though it does not hold it long, in fact it doesn't hold it at all:mad: neither does my benchmade 940(s30v), but my benchmade 745(s30v) sharpens easily, takes a fine edge and holds it forever, so I believe it comes down to heat treat and benchmade is not very consistent with s30v.

That being said with all other steels from benchmade I have had very good experiences with.

Do tell. How have you achieved shaving sharp?

I believe the M2 went quickly and was gone a long time ago.

When I strop it with green compound on leather (mounted on wood) it chips out before I can get it to shave. You're right, maybe BM is a little loosey-goosey with their heat treat practises.
