Hi All

Im sure I am not alone on this one but would it be cool to be able to see the different combinations of the various handle and blade finishes !!

Simple flash programming would make it easy enough !!

i love the new site

Really. It would even more rock if there were resources enuf to allow, by knife, to click on blade finish, and handle finish, then see that combo.

Oooohhh Niiiicccc....................?????????????

I don't want to be the one to look the gift horse in the mouth, but I think a feature such as these guys describe would be a definite plus. It would let you see your blade somewhere other than your minds eye. I don't know about you guys, but my minds eye is often fogged over. :D

We had originally thought about that. I agree this would be awesome indeed!

However, a huge issue already is static pictures. I don’t believe that I was given 2 pictures at the same angle. So Jerry would need to hire a photographer.

So if we had somebody like Terril take static pics of every blade finish of a single knife, let’s say the Natural Outlaw, that would be 8 separate photos for the blade finishes alone.

Each time a new blade was released it would need to be sent out to the photographer and he would need to take 8 photos of that blade with the various finishes. If Jerry were to add a new blade finish in the future, all existing blades would need to be re-sent to the photographer for another picture in the new finish.

Active Duty
8 Blade pictures
5 EDC Handle pictures

Natural Outlaw
8 Blade pictures
5 SF Handle pictures
3 SF Magnum Handle pictures

Steel Heart
8 Blade pictures

Battle Mistress
8 Blade pictures

Etc.

When I received the images I could color adjust and scale them accordingly.

As far as assembling the images goes. I might be able to rig it in HTML but I think it would be much smoother in something like JAVA which I do not write. So we would need someone who spoke JAVA.

We’ll see what the future holds for us. I’m all for it but it might be “2 weeks” before it comes to fruitation.

That's alright Bubba. There has been a "note" made on your profile elsewhere to reflect this gaff. :D

I have the perfect solution!

Seeing as Skunk will promptly be buying one of every combination anyway, we just have the shop route all his deliveries through a good photographer before they possably make it to him. :D

I think that Jerry has already gone far enough. To further disect his site is pointless. What you need to understand is the BusseCombat has already gone much further than any other hardcore knifemaker. There is not one other combat knifemaker that even comes close.

:D:D:D:D Now there is one hell of an idea!

10 different knives, 8 blade types, 5 handles, 3 magnums, serrated, non serrated, etc., etc. - my HP12C cannot compute the total number of permutations and combinations !

I agree, lets just photograph Skunks entire collection and be done with it !

E' Gads

And I just remembered that the tang is exposed at the bottom of the handle so each actual knife option would need to be photographed.

Hi,
When the test site came up a few month's ago, there was some sort of flash to look at handle and blade finish.I remember being able to catch it while the test was online for a few hour's.I can't remember exactly but thought you could make up a sample blade/handle.Did anyone else see the test site?
Pete

IMHO you're making this too hard by aiming too high.

It'd be easier to simply use rectangular swatches of the material/coatings/colors to approximate the knife instead of trying to get properly scaled & colored photo "patches" to paste together in an attempt to show the actual knife.

Figure the "handle" swatch to be a 220x60 pixel rectangle "painted" with a photo pattern of each handle material option and the "blade" to be 300x70 pixel rectangle filled with the pattern of the chosen blade coating/finish. Rectangles are EASY to paint in computerese.

No, it won't be a photo representation of your particular knife. But it would allow you to see what the handle/blade finish combos look like together. It's a vague representation of a knife shape with the purpose of showing patterns.

(edited to add) Okay, I'm back from a run to the store to get chow for the pup. :) I fabricated an example of what a Busse camo pattern & nucarta sample might look like & attached it. This will hopefully show how easy it can be (heck, even I can do it ;) ) to generate these illustrative non-knife samples. Calling two sample graphic files (1 for handle pattern, 1 for blade pattern) and placing them side-by-side is pretty easy to do in HTML.

FWIW, the tutorial to learn basic HTML programming at http://www.davesite.com/ is IMHO very well-done. Easy to read & understand.

That's a GREAT idea, RokJok. And it might even take less than "2 weeks" for that to fruitate as well. ;)

Or they could just make one of each combo in only one model, and photo those for the site.

Wow, thanks Nic!!! Those are nice reference sites. Methinks they'll prove quite handy. They should keep me busy enough to ignore yardwork and gardening for the next couple weeks. ;) :D
