i have read in bladeforums among other websites that sebenzas are now being made with perforated washers. i am currently looking for my 3rd large sebenza, but i would like to purchase one with the new washers. i looked all i could lately for a new one, but no luck. if someone could help point me towards one or give me the right date to look for on the certificate that comes with it, i would know what to look for. i hope i am not missing something on bladeforums that answers this question. thanks, jeff

Edit - Not sure on the dates...but you can get them(washers) from CRK....if you send the knife in.

I just disassembled and cleaned my new Tanto Sebenza (born may 11th), and it does have the perforated washers. I think Sebenzas had them for a while now, although I don`t know for how long.

And yes, you can get the perforated washers from CRK, but you will have to send your knife in as they do have to be custom fitted.

I'm nearly certain that everyone who asked earlier this year was told the knife had to be returned to CRK for this change.

Thats very possible.

They offered to put them in my Regular while it was there for work so I figured they'd have 'em ready to install.

I'll be sure to check with Heather if I decide to put them in my small Regular. It doesnt need sent in for anything but I've thought of getting the perforated ones for it.

What's the purpose of perforated washers?

The new washers have several holes drilled through them around the circumference of the washer. It helps to keep the CRK grease in the washer and keeps the knife lubed longer requiring less maintainence. If you take an older sebenza and wash it several times, it stiffens up a little as the grease is washed out a little. The holes help keep it in..................The Umnumzaan has the perferated washers. I have not had my umnumzaan apart since I got it last fall and it opens like an automatic, its that smooth, in part I believe to the washers holding the grease in. I have washed it several times thoroughly and it has not stiffened up like my other sebenzas do. It just an added feature that Chris added to make a Great Knife Even Better !!!

Yes, and also less surface area of the washer equals less friction with the blade.
