I've got the hankering for a forged persian style bowie and need some recommendations on makers who excel at this style of knife. I'm thinking of a 7" - 9" carbon steel blade and wood handle. If you have pics of this style of knife, please post them as well.

Thanks

Yew.... Hem... To each their own. Sorry, can't help you here. ;)

Well, an obvious choice would be Tom Ferry - though I think he prefers to work in damascus. I actually like this style of knife, and have one on order from Tom. I handled one in Reno this year and was impressed.

Don Hanson is another name that jumps to mind - I like the look he's getting with his carbon steel stuff (though I went with damascus on the piece I recently got from him).

And see the one by Craig Cammerer... Forged w/visible hamon and I'm sure he could handle it anyway you like...

edited to add that that one is now available on a purveyor's website...

Edited a second time 'cause he calls it a "recurve"... but you'll get the idea.. As good as he is, it wouldn't take much to go "Persian.."

Jason Knight and Adam DesRosiers come to mind.

While their blade shapes tend to be more "recurve" in style, I believe they come pretty close to what you're looking for.

Great makers, great value and knives cut like laser beams. :D

Bailey Bradshaw would be an excellent choice and his wait times are quite reasonable.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've liked just about everything I've seen from the mentioned makers but Jason Knight and Bailey Bradshaw's knives really stand out for me. I've always liked Bailey's elegant style. He seems to be able to make just about any kind of knife and it still be instantly recognizable as a Bradshaw. Still kicking myself for not buying a katana he had at Blade several years back. I'm going to do some more thinking about what exactly I want and them shoot a couple of emails.

Thanks

James
