Permanent patina?

Is it possible to get a one-time patina that will always prevent rust, not wear with use and be safe for food prep?

If you really want all that in a knife, why not just get one in stainless? As to your question, use the knife, let it patina on it's own, wash it after food prep, dry it and put it away. As long as it is stored dry, the patina will prevent serious rust.
