Hiya All,
As we are ALL Spyderco Fans here I wanted to post up my thoughts on a new knife I got ---- The Spyderco Perrin Street Bowie { sadly discontinued }
It was designed by Fred Perrin , a highy noted French Knifemaker and Martial Artist , who used his custom Street Bowie as the base knife for this design.
It was made from 2001 - 2004 in Seki City , Japan before being discontinued. It was offered in both polished and black blade styles. At the time , Sug. Retail Price was around $130. It has a 5" blade of VG-10 steel , a OAL of 9 1/2" , weighs about 3 1/2 Oz. and had a FRN handle with a soft Kraton rubber inlay on each side to aid in gripping the knife . It came with a pretty good Kydex sheath with a multi-adjustable belt attachment. The sheath also has holes around the sides allowing other options such as neck carry etc.
It has no "guard" but the deep finger choil and the jimping built into the top of the handle and blade , combined with the well designed handle makes it VERY doubtfull your hand would slide onto the blade even in a very hard power thrust.
Mine came "straight-razor" sharp , as most Spydercos are known for. The blade grind is flawless , with a full flat grind and a stout point that penetrates well with little chance of breakage if bone or other hard objects are hit. The knife balances right at the front finger choil which makes it feel even lighter then its 3 1/2 oz.
This knife will do almost everything any other knife will BUT it was designed as a concealable self-defense knife and at that IT IS EXCELLENT !!!!
It is very comfortable and useable in a variety of grip styles such as the "Saber Grip".
The "Dagger Grip" or {REFO} Rear Edge Facing Out
The "Reverse Dagger Grip" / P'Kal or {REFI} Rear Edge Facing In
It's a GREAT knife that even my dog , DaBeast , seems to like !!!!
If you ever have the chance to buy one of these discontinued treasures , I don't think you'll be sorry you did.
Thanks all --- DaBird
