I just got the Perrin and Temperance fixed blades. Very impressive pieces. The blades are real cutters. Great for utility and defensive use. I hope the Ronin is as good. Any more fixed blades planned?

I used the Perrin FB for this entire summer. Absolutely outstanding ergonomics and the VG10 steel really held its edge well.

I've posted my short review/impressions of the Perrin on this forum before. Some time has passed since I posted that review and I will unequivocably say that I still think the Perrin is OUTSTANDING. Kudos to Fred Perrin and Spyderco. Wish I had the money to outfit all my friends and family with a Perrin.

For those who haven't tried one, Spyderco fixed blades are superb. I have a Perrin and a Moran. Can't wait for the Ronin.

Both are excellent knives. The Temperance fits my hands better, and avoids the label of a "Bowie", which in many states are singled out as being illegal. The Temperance also looks so much like a kitchen knife, it should raise fewer eyebrows among law enforcement types.

When Fred Perrin bowie appeared I have thought “What the nice tactical-kitchen knife! Lightweight, with versatile flat ground blade, excellent steel, comfortable handle, awesome sheath – very nice choice going outdoors!”

Some time later Sal came with fixed blade Temperance and mixed up all my thoughts. Temperance has even more kitchen-like fully flat ground blade, it is even more secure and comfortable to handle, the blade steel is the same and the sheath is equally good. It also looks somewhat stronger.
On the other hand it is noticeably heavier.

Wow, it is really hard question to choose among these two knives!

We began getting our feet wet in the fixed blade market with the Moran. Though small, it is a serious user as many are learning. We certainly don't get 'em back with problems.

All of our fixed blades are being made with the same dedication to delivering reliable high performance as our folders have been for the past 20+ years.

The Morans, Lum Tanto, Perrin Bowie, Temperance, SPOT and the Ronin are 6 completely different styles of fixed blades. They'll all be in production and in the marketplace by the end of October. We'll be able to watch market reaction to our fixed blade solutions.

They are all very well made and perform very well in their intended areas. IMO, (yes, I'm biased) any of our fixed blades will compete very favorably with any on the market, custom or production.

We also have some Phil Wilson filet designs and a Joe Maddox design that will need pics and explanations.

Mr Glesser

I have been a Spyderco ELU (I truly hate the dehumanization of the anagram) for many years. Kudos to your foray into the FB market. Both Morans and the perrin bowie are now my favourite factory FB knives. Great job. ELU nonsense not withstanding.

I'm curious; what's the difference in design philosophy between the Perrin and the Temperance?

They seem to my untrained eye to fill the same niche, as a mid-sized utility and defense blade. But then, I have virtually zero experience with utility FBs :D

Anybody?

How about a fixed 5" blade version of the Shabaria? This would be a real eye catcher.
