Okay... seen maybe two/three links to this "Jacob's ladder" folder by Fred Perrin. Been looking for one, and want to know if it'll be worth all the hassle when I finally find a retailer that has it.... EDCKnives seems to be out. Not listed at Bladeart.com or at Szaboinc last I checked...
http://www.edcknives.com/vcom/product_info.php?products_id=340 for an example...

Any reason to like or dislike it? Ergonomics? Construction? Edge retention?

Edit (to avoid bumping): Thanks for the info guys. I'll see if I can get one from Mr. Perrin then.

1. there is no locking sytem, your hands can give out easy.

2.bad design- pointless for tri folder

3.BORING...

It depends on what you get. There are the Jacob's Ladder folders that Fred HIMSELF makes, and then there are the other ones which are made from his design. As I understand the story, he couldn't produce enough by himself to meet the demand (or maybe didn't WANT to produce enough) and so he had a friend who contracted out construction of these to some non-descript factory in eastern europe (?). From what I've heard, they range in quality from being pretty good to being downright "novelty" quality. I think if you look at them for what they are (basicaly a novelty) then you wouldn't be disappointed. If you're expecting a high level of F&F or refinement then I think you'd be disappointed. And its not like Mr. Perrin's somewhat signature "rustic" finish, but rather just sloppy factory work.

Hope that helps some.

Thanks for the link. Interesting little knife. I have a very similar model, a Case Tri-Fold, long out of production, with cheap blade and Zytel body. It makes a neat utility folder, and it's fun to manipulate.

I wouldn't mind a true Perrin model, if it weren't TOO expensive. :)

perrins tri folder is an awesome knife, im looking for another one...im convinced he made it out of a hacksaw frame....i compared the 2 and well... for those who have them take a look at a standard hack saw frame see 4 yourself
