Thanks for the great comparison images!
I'm beginning to think I need a Street Beat.

The sheath is much higher quality in materials and design vs. the older edition, IMO.Appears that the finger choil is further in the sheath. Marketed improvement. I have the original FB and detested its sheath. This is great news!
Doesn't hurt that the Street Beat is oh so pretty!
Thanks Spyderco!
I got grain, I got grain! :thumbup:Excellent pictoral comparison! Is there enough 'grain' in the handle for you?![]()

I completely disagree. I have a Sastre sheath for my old Perrin, but it allows the same full access to the choil that the factory sheath did. I really appreciate the ability to acquire a full grip on the knife before drawing it from the sheath. I really have no interest in carrying a fixed blade that requires me to shift my grip after drawing the knife: that's an extra step I don't need.Appears that the finger choil is further in the sheath. Hey, JD, I don't have one (yet) but it looks like the number is on the side of the blade (next to the Spyder logo which is a neat touch, btw) as per the last pic above.Does the new one have the collector number on the spine like the older one did?
Looks great, Mike. You can be sure I'll pick one up when I get my Street Beat. Thanks for the mention!! Here's the Drawpoint for the Street Beat - same as bigger brother.

This does look like a much higher quality sheath than the original Perrin, and I am quite interested in getting a Street Beat, but I would not carry it in a sheath that eats up so much of the handle.

Also I have one on it's way in the mail to me. Is it's handle the linen Micarta or is it that highly polished Micarta like the JD Smith model?
I have no precision measuring devices but it looks as thinner or possibly thinner. I doubt it is thicker at any point on the blade.BTW, I forgot to say: thanks for the great pictures, zenheretic! You've definitely helped me along a lot in wanting to get one of these. I think I have some idea based on the pictures, but could you comment as to whether the thinnest part of the handle (I.E. the deepest part of the choil) is about the same diameter as the original Perrin? Or is is thicker in any way? I really liked the thin nature of the first. I am not sure whether this one simply 'looks' thicker because of materials and relative dimensions, or whether it really is.
