OH Yes, that's a fine knife and sheath on multiple levels.

Thanks for giving us a look.

That's a wonderful looking knife. I love that blade and the bronze fittings with the ironwood handle are beautiful. The sheath is the icing on the cake. Thanks for letting us see it.

Excellent use of textures, Gerhard. Wonderful lines.

Did you carve the bronze itself or carve wax and cast the bronze?

Outstanding artwork!

thank you all for your kind posts!

@david,
I carved the bronce itself- it was a block of ´bearing bronce´ (hope, it´s the right term?)
unfortunatally I have no possibilty to cast.
this would be so much easier...

Hey Gerhard,

I don't know that carving wax is easier than carving the bronze itself. I've done both. I just got some cast bronze parts back on Friday. I had carved them in wax. Even the hard machinable wax is soft, and being used to carving metals it's easy to be too aggressive with wax. Very different stuff to work with.

Looks like you did a wonderful job on these knives. Hope the DVD helps you, although it looks like you have a good idea what you're doing already!

thank you too for looking and commenting!

hi david,
you are right- carving and hot-forming wax is a totally different challenge.
but after 30 years experience in dental technique I miss sometimes the possibility to rebuild too much removed material...
