just found a straight razor at a local antique dealer for $30 !!
its in great shape and im pretty sure it will make a good user .
edge looks really good and only has light surface rust near spine and no pitting !
gonna take a bit of work to get it in shape .

i just had a couple of questions if anyone knows about this one ?

its black plastic handle , hollow ground both sides ,kinda patterned notch tip of spine ,
blade has "persian" and a sword printed/etched on it and what looks like arabic on the flat near the pivot ?

is there a difference in single ground blades opposed to double ground ?

thanks for any input !

a double ground blade will have two hollows down the blade instead of one, so if you are looking down the blade from the end, on a single ground blade, the curve goes all the way to meet at the edge in one clean arch, this is more common, as far as I know, in thicker blades. double ground will have two arcs, one that takes up about 3/4 of the blade depth, and the other that continues to the edge. This can be quite subtle, so the easier way to tell is by feel, the double ground will thicken near the edge before thinning down again. This is to add strength to thinner blades.

My concern would be that it might not be a real antique, and may just be a cheap bit of steel. But if you want to try it out, go right ahead, at the very least it will be good honing practice.

Thanks for advice ,
Im gonna pic it up today ill post some pics of my restoration project !
I guess i meant hollow ground on either side of the blade not double ground .

I dont think this is the origonal box ? Came in half of a army navy box got the razor for $15 !

Folding(western) style razors are ground symmetrically, you might be thinking of Japanese razors have a different grind on each side.
