Ok, i just got a mini persian from knifecenter. I was wondering if you think i should edc a discontinued knife? I really like this knife and would be totally pissed if it got broken and i could not replace it, but i also want to carry this sucker. What would you do?

Carry and use it! It's a great knife that begs to be used. Keep in mind, it IS a Spyderco, so as long as you use it for cutting and slicing, the chances of breaking it are pretty remote.

The small Persian is a great EDC...and very elegant ! Solidly built, it will cover just about any urban task that calls for a sharp blade. Ya' gotta love those Ed Schempp Persians !....style plus performance.

I looked extensively to find one. I got this one at knifecenter for about 120 shipped. Also saw one at warriors and wonders for 135 canadian.

I heard that you really begin to appreciate the Persian when you use it. I know that is true of the Kris.

That's the point, there will be no backup. Would you edc a knife that has collectors value if you could not replace it? I'm sure i will use it, but to what extent.

The collector value may or may not go up. It's all based on scarcity, and there must be thousands of 'em around.

If it does go up, the amount is not going to be a life-changer...

Buy it, EDC it, use it, but don't abuse it!

It's hard to find a knife with a nice belly these days that's why I like the Mini-Persian.

I'd be pretty limited in my EDC's if I didn't carry and use my discontinued models.

You have to make a tough choice. In my honest opinion there are not many knives equal to Persian. You have to use it to enjoy it completely and I can understand your hesitation to use it because it discontinued. I EDC only five of my knives (both Persians among them), but I have at least couple back-ups for each. The only good solution is to get a backup or two.
