I just picked up my first Spyderco a Persistance PE and couldn't be more impressed. Fit and finish is excellent, and the size is just perfect for my EDC needs. Being an union electrician I really would like to get a Spyderco that is made in the good old U.S.A.. Which U.S.A. one do you think is the most comparable to the Persistance in size, function, and ergonomics?

Native, or, if you can live without a lock, the UKPK.

Native or Manix 2.

The UKPK is made in Golden, Colorado, but is a slip joint and offers much different (and IMO, better) ergonomics than the Persistence. It's more of an EDC knife than a work-knife.

I would get the new Sprint Manix2 with the carpenter steel (essentially a more stainless D2 steel). If thats too expensive, the regular Manix2 is a good buy. Your options really open up, if can spend around $100.

Looks like I'm going to get the Manix 2. Now all I've got to do is find it on sale somewhere.

The Golden Colorado made Native model which is one of my current favorite EDCs is a great all around multi-function blade. I personally like the serrated, Spyderedged model because it has about 3/4 of an inch of plain edge right on the tip part of the blade which usually gets me by well for 95% of my plain edged cutting chores.

Now I would also recommend an older Military model such as one of the 440V models. The Military is such a great all around knife you just can't go wrong with that model at all. The Chinnook 3 is a good one as well.

I'm also wondering if the P'Kal wouldn't be good for your line of work. But the PE or SE Native is a great hard use blade. Now keep in mind that not all Native models are USA made. The ones with the stainless handles are Seki City Japan made. Also the Native 3 with VG-10 blade steel is foreign made as well. Make sure it says Golden CO USA Earth on the blade.

All of the Golden Colorado USA made Spyders are superb. If you don't mind a fixed blade the Swick model is a good one as well. Good luck and keep us posted as to which one you end up with.
