Persistence is an awesome home run IMHO...

I have owned many "Spydercos" and can't find fault with any even though I haven't kept but a couple. A "Spin" my wife carries and a "Micro Dyad" that I really like on weekends. I have a friend who has a "Tenacious" and is very fond of it. I thought the knife was of great quality but just didn't ring my bell. When the "Persistence" came out I was intrigued and waited for some reviews. Well I broke down and bought one (a Persistence) from "knifeworks" and I have been playing with all week. For(me) it is as near perfect as I could hope for in the stage of knife gathering I am at right now. Not tactical but sensibly usable and built to last for ever at a decent price. I have really cut my collection back to knives I really use and have a real need for and this "Spyderco Persistence" is a keeper. It is just the right size open and closed, built like a much more expensive knife. Great blade design and materials. Weight is fine for me at 3.3oz. I like everything about it. I was carrying a "Buck Vantage" around that was filling that need of size weight and usefulness in an inexpensive package. Well that "Buck" has some serious competition at present. I will be EDCing this knife for a while!:D

The liner lock in Persistence looks really solid. I never really knew ZT 0350 was that small...

Hey buddy! nice lookin cutter. I really like the buck you have there. The new one is a cute looker too. I would put a smiley here cept I forgot how.

Baba, be sure to try out the Kershaw Nerve. I think that would be able to compete with the spyderco! :D

Totally agree with you on this one, the persistence has all the right ingredients, all wrapped up in an affordable package. Time will tell.

I love the design, but it desperately needs a better steel. It deserves one. Not that 8Cr13MoV is terrible stuff, but I would get this knife in a heartbeat if it were made of S30V.

I've been considering one for a while now. To anyone with both, I have a feeling it's about the same size as an Izula, could anyone help me with that?

Agreed.

I am a HUGE Kershaw fan, but ever since I got my Peristence, it finds its way into my pocket more often than anything else.

If it was made with S30V it would not be a Persistence nor would it be priced at $32.

But you can have a near clone of the Persistence with an S30V blade and nicer carbon fiber scales. It's called a "Sage 1", it's made in Taiwan, and it sells for around $80. ;) I've got one and it's a great knife.

If the Persistence is anything like the quality of the Tenacious I bought a couple of weeks ago, I think the Persistence is a superb choice of a knife at $32. I've got one enroute to me... can't wait to receive it!

It's a great knife at an awesome price. If anyone is considering it, buy one. I seriously doubt you'll be disappointed.

Hi Babakanoosh,

Thanx for the review and nice photos. Glad you are enjoying the design.

Eric and I worked for many months refining the model. Trying to create a smaller Tenacious while still retaining the features and ergos proved challenging. We made many models refining the details incrementally.

Eric has a larger design which he's calling the "Resilience" and he has plans for a variation smaller than the Persistence. All "Siblings" of the Tenacious concept (full length edge, stout blade shape, Walker Linerlock, G-10 scales and full skeletonized liners). I realize I'm biased, but I believe the Tenacious "family" is/will be, among the best bang for the Buck anywhere today.

Hi THG,

I disagree that the steel is "terrible stuff". 8Cr13MoV has proved to be a tough very functional steel. I've used the Tenacious quite a bit under some tough conditions while cutting wood, and was pleased with the performance. It will take a very nice edge and our heat treaters do a good job keeping the steel ar optimnum hardness.

Maybe it doesn't fall into the "exotica" realm, but it certainly is among the best available from Chinese foundries, and a better steel than most of our competitors use. You're just spoiled ;)

Thank you Mr. Glesser, I couldn't be happier with the "Persistence'! The "Resilience" sounds awesome as well. Maybe something along the lines of the "Military" in dimensions? That would be great as well! For me the "Tenacious" was that awkward middle ground in size in my hand. I needed larger or smaller for a comfortable purchase. The "Persistence" of coarse fills the smaller aspect the "Resilience" sounds like it will fill the larger.:D:thumbup: I agree with you on the steels. I have been cutting with this 8Cr13Mov all week and I just went out and easily slashed through 5 extra large cable ties lashing an old bird feeder to a fencepost. Cut like butter, it was sorta scary! Can't wait to see the new larger model as well as the G-10 Lum Chinese folder I saw in another thread. Gota have one of those for sure. Be well and thanks again for getting me excited about some new knife purchases...:)

If it was made with S30V it would not be a Persistence nor would it be priced at $32.0

Then I suppose the ZDP-189 Delica is not a Delica because it doesn't use VG-10 and isn't priced at the $55 range?

Ah, I'd love to get a Sage, but tip-up only is a deal-breaker for me. It looks like a near-perfect knife otherwise.

Hello Mr. Glesser,

I agree(d) that you disagree that the steel is terrible stuff:

I love the design, but it desperately needs a better steel. It deserves one. Not that 8Cr13MoV is terrible stuff, but I would get this knife in a heartbeat if it were made of S30V.

I just believe that as such high-performing knives (which they truly are), the Tenacious and Persistence deserve higher-performing steels. Maybe I am a little spoiled :o

Maybe this calls for a sprint run?? :D

You bet. A Persistence could be made with S30V. But it isn't. Perhaps someday - maybe. But don't hold your breath. And in the meantime, you could be enjoying the bargain priced Persistence with 8Cr13Mov. ;)

Hi THG,

I guess I misunderstood, (read too quickly), I stand corrected. My apology.

My Persistence arrived today. Home run knife. Will be buying a couple more to give to friends. It's that good and that reasonably priced.

I have the Tenacious, bought used on the forum here, and it's a great all-around general-to-hard-use cutter. I have the Persistence coming a little later this year for my son.

The 8Cr13MoV blade steel holds up just as well with my other working pieces, and it's a great steel for teaching others to free-hand sharpen.

thx - cpr
