Persistence vs. Delica vs. Benchmade

Got a Persistence coming and have never held one. Today, I held a Delica with black handles, and a Pardue Mini Griptilian by Benchmade with the hole, and then a Benchmade Mini Ambush with no hole. Also tried several Kershaws, the best I liked was a Blackout.

The Delica was the lightest and with the thumbhole, easiest to open. Tied in weight by feel with the Mini Grip. The Mini Ambush was only $50 and I like that opening and closing system, but it was bulkier and wider. I could get the Delica for $57 or so since it has the glue from the sticker remaining and they would sell it 20% off so as not to have to go get some rubbing alcohol to get it fully off.

So how does the Persistence compare to any of these? Which one would be a good compliment with contrast to the Persistence, as I dont want an exact duplicate.

What do you mean, you don't want an exact duplicate? Of what? The Persistence is a nice economical folder. It has great fit and finish, the blade is super sharp. You'll like it.

OH, I am glad I have the Spyderco coming. I held a Delica today and loved it. The Sypderhole made it so easy for a new guy like me to open it quickly one handed. I know why my nephew loves Spydies. But to get the flavor of a different maker, I held some Leeks, a Blackout, a Scallion and a Chive and a Zing and liked the Blackout the best of the Kershaws. I held a Mini Grip and the Mini Ambush and to me, maybe the Mini Ambush is the entry level to the Axis system. Now maybe I am making too much of the Axis system but the Mini Grip felt great in my hands, light and I liked the thumb and forefinger placement, both on the handle then also under the blade. The Mini Ambush is sorta like it, but I think that assist opening mechanism is a tad inferior, the rolling system.

I can get a used Native for $40, but the Mini Ambush seems to be that, for a new one, and the Mini Grip, the favorite in my hand of all I have held, is gonna run like $61. I do want a second knife to play with so I can compare and see what steels are all about, what I like as far as weight and choil and all that, and was thinking Mini Grip until I saw a Mini Ambush today. So I want something that is like the Persistence, (3 inch blade) but not a total clone.

I had a Mini-Griptilian 555HG (the one you held and liked) but I gave it to my dad as a gift and kept the full-size 550HG Griptilian for my EDC knife because of the blade geometry and the fact that it has a readily available trainer. Spyderco makes a great knife, but I prefer the feel and deployment of the Griptilian over the Endura.

The best advice I can give is to shoot for comfort and ease of use for you. If the Mini-Griptilian felt best in your hand then I would get that knife, forget about the difference in price. You can spend a bit extra and get what you really like or you can roll ghetto and buy twice to save a few bucks right now. Not very good math and the other knives will just make you wonder why you didn't just spring the extra scratch from the get-go.

"Persistence vs. Delica vs. Bencchmade"

Sing with me..

"One of these things is not like the other, which one is different do ya know?"

If it helps, the Persistence has a relatively flat G10 handle, uses a liner lock and the blade is mounted on phosphor bushings - I've found it much easier to open and closer one handed than my friend's Delica.

you will not be disappointed with the persistence.. I love mine I doubt I'd like the tenacious however as the width on the persistence is pushing the envelope with some clothes..

Delica is like the perfect carry edc for me right now..

Like said before go with what feels best for you since you've had the chance to fondle multiple.....

I never even held the persistence bought it online and its a great knife for under $30... not one single complaint.............. period..

Personally Benchmade never impressed me. I had a few benchmades and they were ok. I would get one of the spydies.
