Persistence

Thanks for a most excellent review of the Persistence.
Mine should be in the mail Monday, sounds like I may need to order a couple more.

Thanks for the review, STR. I'm hoping to pick up a Persistence soon. It will be my second spydie.

Quick question: Is the blade off-center and has there been any "grinding" issues when opening the blade? I read another review of the Persistence on the Spyderco forums and the reviewer brought these issues up.

Check it out here - http://www.spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?p=515400

This one I had was exemplary in every way with a dead centered blade, perfect detent action with a ball that actually does what its supposed to do and seemed to have as good a fit and finish as many of the higher priced models I've had sent to me to work on, and I'm not referring to just the higher priced Spydercos. Granted in production models some fall through the cracks but this particular folder I had here was about as good as it gets. Absolutely perfect lock up too!

Been carrying a Tenacious for a long time now, so had to pick up the Persistence, both are awesome knives at the price they sell for.

Thats a really nice looking clip there STR, can you make them without having the knife?

No sure can't. I really didn't anticipate seeing a lot of them. The only ones I can make clips for like that are for folders where I actually own one myself. Right now I'm dog poor after buying this Emerson Custom I got the other day so my getting much of anything is out of the question for a while.

I'd need the knife to do one and quite honestly I'm not even sure I have enough titanium right now to make a custom clip from scratch. Most of the ones I get calls for I have templates already cut out so all I have to do is grab one of those and bend it but for some like this folder called the Persistence that is rather new I have nothing in the way of existing templates already cut out ready to fold over like that so they have to be done by the old fashioned way of cutting them out on my band saw, cleaning them up, folding, bending to fit, etc etc. I'm down low on the right thickness titanium currently and may have just enough to do a couple more and thats it until I restock and right now since I'm bone dry in the wallet I am not planning on doing that for a bit yet until I can pay down my MasterCard when its due here at the end of the month.

I'll look when I get to the shop today to see what I've got. If I do have enough I'll let you know but don't hold your breath. :D

Thanks for askin' though.

I just got my Persistence today and all I can say is ... wow.

A very nice knife for its low price point. G-10 is good, blade is solid and comes with a very nice edge. It has a very strong liner lock and feels very good in hand. This has replaced the Salt 1 as my EDC.

Its one heck of a nice edc. Sometimes I wish that I hadn't spent $150/$200
on others, that I won't use, cause they cost so much. The Tenacious and Persistence are a best buy for sure.

How is the opening on your guys' Persistence knives? I find the knife to have a rock solid lock up but opening it is not very smooth. I understand that some pressure is applied to keep the blade from opening in pocket but it feels as if the bushings are too rough. Do any of feel the same?

All mine, are as smooth as butter :D Maybe there's some grit left over in yours.

How do you think I should take care of it? Some rubbing alcohol and then tuf glide? Or should I just use some 1000 grit sandpaper?

I think in that order, might do the trick, if not, try not to fret over it, it may right it self over time . ;)

The Persistence from what I have read is just a smaller Tenacious.
STR's review could have just been for the Tenacious had it not been for the dimensions.

If that's the case then  we Tenacious owners already know. :D
I have 2 Tenacious because I thought they would wise up and jack the price up at some point.

Nice review!!!
Thanks STR. :)
