Here is a work in progress thread for a personal Carry that I finished last month. I will post progression pics as I work through the build.

Here is the begining of the knife, a bar of W2 lots of tongs, hammers, anvil, press and a forge.

wip2.jpg
Here I am using the press to bring the bar to the correct width and thickness.

wip3.jpg
Here is a shot of the forge and the blade after I have forged the point onto the bar.

wip4.jpg
In this photo I have the knife forged out and am getting ready to cut the tang off on the hardy.

Here is the knife forged to shape and ready to go through and annealing cycle.

This is my sugar creek kiln where I will anneal the blade

Throwing some sparks setting the final profile. From here I went on and rough ground the blade to 120 grit. It is now ready to apply the clay.

standard.jpg
This is my coffee can of santanite refractory cement.

standard.jpg
The blade has been cleaned with alcohol and I am applying a thin wash of clay. this will be dried in the oven.

standard.jpg
I add more clay to the wash mixture to get it to the consistency I am looking for.

standard.jpg
Here is the thickness I am looking for. nice and smooth but sticking to the applicator stick.

standard.jpg
The clay is applied to the blade. I am looking for a nice turnback on this one.

standard.jpg
This one has made it through heat treatment and final grinding. Now I am Hand sanding the blade.

standard.jpg
And more hand sanding and more hand sanding and more hand sanding :D

standard.jpg
Scrubbing the blade to remove all grease and oil before etching.

standard.jpg
Etching the blade in the nasty etchant tank.

standard.jpg
Here is the blade right after the etch. The etchant has been killed with ammonia and baking soda.

standard.jpg
The polish compound is getting applied to the blade

standard.jpg
Rubbing down the blade. The hamon is starting to emerge. Its hard to see in the picture but the turnback goes up about three quarters of the way on the false edge.

This pic shows all the rough pieces togather and ready for shaping. For some reason my mind went blank and I didn't get any pics of the shaping process.

Here are the final shapes of the handle. I did thin out the guard a bit before I put the coin edge on it.

This is my salt blueing rig.

standard.jpg
All hot and bubbly and ready to use.

The final product! The blade is 3 13/16" long and the knife has and oal of 7 11/16". It is a dandy little hideout knife base upon my personal carry model.

^^^ What Joe said. That is a sweet little knife - portable, practical and good looking - nice job.

great looking knife, and a cute WiP!

Outstanding work in a small package! Cross-draw sheath, maybe???

And it was great seeing you again at blade, Craig! Am really loving that secondary market piece I picked up and showed you. People out here love it, too!

And that little piece in this thread would be a great companion piece!!!

I am glad that you like the knife, I had fun making this one. The gentleman I made this one for had me build a stud button sheath for concealed carry.
