Personal Crisis - What to do?

After years of longsuffering through my Busse collecting, my wife is asking - no, demanding - one of my Busses so that she will have a really sharp knife in the kitchen. (Note that I do not require a sharp knife in the kitchen. If metal cans could be used in the microwave, the only dirty dishes my cooking would ever generate is a spoon, as I hate the little plastic ones.)

Now, when she commandeered my BBSHII for her personal automotive self denfense knife, I got it back by buying her an Ontario Marine Fighter. Lighter, quicker, made for fighting, I told her, and she fell for it.

So will misdirection once again be the way to go? Should I spend a C-Note or so on a decent kitchen knife set, or turn over (I shudder to think of it) one of my Vexalari or
Culti to her? Maybe Door #1 is the choice, as I don't want to set any foolish precedents.

Is she a good cook? It might be worth it if she is. Just get another Busse...

Getting her a nice sharp set of kitchen knives is probably the right thing to do. It's your call. Personally, my Colombian girl friend now lives with me and I've begun thinking of ways to limit the razor sharp implements in the house, but that's my unique issue.

or they could come up with the Busse Basic Kitchen (BBK) knife set for the discerning (slightly combative) chef.

This is a moment fraught with great peril, sir.:(

One tiny mis-step and, well, who knows what could happen.

I say ... call up Amy, get Alton Brown's cell phone number, and have a quiet chat about his 8" Chef's Knife.

Now. Before it's too late!!!;)

I think a good sharp knife in the kitchen, in addition to a synthetic cutting board are a must.

I personally still use a couple 4 star Henckles that I bought 9 years ago, just because they sharpen up real good and still work. However if I was going to buy a decent kitchen knife today I would probably get the new one Chris Reeve is putting out.

I kind of understand women .. a little . This is her way of saying she wants you to buy her a nice set of kitchen cutlery.

The steel on the Vex stains really easily (I've got lots of discoloration on mine from cutting up fruit at lunch), so that's a good excuse for you if you want to keep that one away from her ;)

I use a couple of my scrap yard 154cm knives in the kitchen, and they excel there, but a good kitchen knife set, purpose-made for the job, is going to do better.

Play your cards right and youll be set...
Get her a Busse, and let her see how great it preforms
Then for each new release you can Holler to her in the kitchen,
"Honey, they got a matching Busse to your kitchen knife"
"Should I get 2 or just 1 for me?"

hehehe or she just takes em all ........ yikes....

i just picked up an awsome kitchen set from shun the onion knives, great slicers and good to hold and use. i think they will out live me honestly....

Mike...shame on you for making your wife carry an Ontario on lieu of one of your indestructable Busses.

I say you get her a set of good kitchen knives. You owe her for the Ontario thing. ;) :D

My wife was not too keen on the Shunions. She much preferred the Wusthof Classics, and they are indeed great knives. I say take her to Williams-Sonoma and let her fondle a few different sets to see what she likes.

Well, Mike, I could talk to her...woman to woman, you know? :D I used to LOVE my Culti for almost all kitchen work, but now I have my paws on an infi SHBA that has been doing well... ;)

Just sayin' ;)
