Hi, I'm a new member and i've got a question.
I'm looking for a good bowie knife to be a workhorse on the trail and in camp.
There are tons of knife maker claims and reviews but I'm looking to hear of some personal preferences and opinions of members' favorite bowies.
Can anyone give me their two cents worth on bowies that they like?

I just ordered a custom Bowie from Justin at Ranger Knives. I had it made basically based on a RD6 model, 5160 steel, satin finish, not quite as high as an RD6, light wood grain appearing micarta full handles & thin red spacers, and a sharpened top front swedge.
I hope to have it late next week. I'll post a few pics as soon as I get it.
Dealing with him is a pleasure.
Take Care,
JGarth

Are you looking for a knife styled like in a similar way to a classic bowie, like the CS Laredo, or one styled like a Swamp Rat, Becker BK-9, etc.?

I was actually looking for both a classic western/mountain man style as well as a Becker or CS Trailmaster style.
I wanted to have a display worthy knife that wouldn't break if I put it to work and another that I could outright abuse in the field.

I'm more concerned about breakage due to sideways torque or accidentally chopping a hard object (ie. a rock) than anything else.

Thanks for everyone's help! I think that I'm going to try to find a Becker Bowie or Brute for my trail knife (for expense and utility reasons).

I'll still search for a classic bowie as more of a show piece...
