Thanks for all the prayers and kind thoughts from all of you.

We have had to go to the hospital twice last week, due to frequent contractions. We are still about 2 months early. Thankfully, they were able to give my wife some medication to moderate the contractions, and a premature delivery does not seem immanent. Other than problems in the intestines, the baby seems to be doing well. he may need surgery after he is born, to be able to properly process food.

Winter is passing, temp up into the 30's today! :) :(

Enjoying kendo with my two older boys. Loving my job like no other I have had. learning alot, getting better as an engraver. Did my first gold inlay on an 1886 Winchester a few weeks ago. The gold stayed in!

Found a neat book on Sumi-e painting this evening. A Japanese art form, using shades of black ink. The author has a lot of cool stuff to say. I think it will help me with understanding shades of gray, which is the palette for engravers in steel.

The folks we have met are taking care of us. A woman from church came over today, did some cleaning for my wife, and some food shopping too.

I really enjoyed the thread about walking sticks. great stuff, and great links. Thanks!

I have one, made for me by a co worker when I worked at a living history museum. I had been in the hospital with a bad case of cellulitis in my lower leg. he did it all with hand tools, from black walnut. Mortise and tenon joint, with a pin holding on the handle, and a leather square on the bottom .

because of that thread, I put some true oil on it last night. it needed it bad.

Thanks again all!

back down to the basement. more engraving than I can shake a walking stick at! :)

You are always included in smoke and prayers - whether your name is specifically remembered or not.

My oldest boy was almost premature, Tom. My wife had to lay in bed a few days. The medicine was speedy, but it worked.

Glad to hear positive things Tom...smoke continues for the little one...

prayers for your family from over the ocean.
My wife and me are expecting our first child in about two months too. But our problems are minor - it rejects turning head down until now - but has showed it can for 2 hours yesterday.

Both my girls were early. Close to 8wks. Both were fine at birth and very healthy since--both in high percentiles for growth and are both advanced in mental development(must me be mom's genes :D )

My oldest now 5, was behind in some areas when she was a toddler, but quickly caught up. Don't let them stress you out with all the "maybes" make sure you have access to the highest level premee care hospital and pray for the best.

Hang int here, smokke sent!

My daughter was 5 weeks early. Spent one week in the NIC ward. When we got her home I didn't breathe or sleep for a month, but I did begin breathing for the next 4 months, but not really sleeping.

She's climbed up on the growth charts, but she really seema about 5 weeks behind on other stuff (which means like nothing in the long run) She's 2.5 yrs now.

I have a buddy who was born MONTHS early, weighing like 2lbs when born. He's here to tell about it, and is normal sized and eveloped.

I have a theory that new life is resilient. It is the opposite of death. It is super-life, supercharged, with the intent of making it. The Ancestors told me this when I talked to them when Heather had stopped breathing and was rushed to the NIC ward. I told them "Hey, you sent her here to Midgard, I want some help here." And they helped.

She is amazing! :)

Is this your first too, GT?

OT:Also, Got any resources you can point me to on metal engraving?

What they said.

My third grandson was a preemie. If his mother can ever catch him, we'll do some measurements. :) (I think we need one of those invisible nets they use to catch hummingbirds.)

He DID have to take growth hormone shots on a daily basis for a while, but his father needed them as well when he was a child, so we don't know definitively whether the slow growth was a result of the premature birth, or heredity.

Neat kid. Fast. Very fast.

Be well and safe.

I was born during a blizzard with my umbilical cord wrapped around my neck, and I turned out ok... :D

When I was a kid, we rescued an orphaned kitten, a week old, dying of pnemonia. He grew up to be a runt, but with one of the highest spirits of any animal I have ever known. And the cat is almost indestructible, and fearless.

Kismet, your description is what brought up the memory.

Tom, glad that there is some good going on. God is big and can do big things ~ I will pray some more for you and yours. A word of encouragement concerning tests and what they say about new borns: I beat the tests before I was born. I was my mothers 5th child, and a "surprise". They told my mom that I was dead and that they had to get me out before I poisoned her. She said "no!". A month later they finally heard a heart beat, very week. They did what tests were available at that time, said for sure that I would be brain damaged and have physical handicaps. They told her to abort me. She said "no!". I was born premature (6 + weeks) and needed a blood transfusion, got to hang out in an incubator for a while. All said and done, I reckon that I'm as smart as the next guy, and through out school was quite athletic. So I guess what I'm saying is, miracles do happen some times. Keep your faith, and one way or another, if he brings you to it ~ if you do your part he will bring you through it :)

Thanks again all!

Another visit today. Fluid still gone from around the heart. medicine seems to help the contractions stay quieter and less frequent.

Doctor said next step would be a hospital bed with IV.

Just had a great talk with my best friend I left in NC. Enjoyed putting #4 in bed after he fell asleep next to Mommy in our bed.

It is well with my soul.
