Greetings and Happy New Year,
I was wondering what people do to personalize their favorite knives? I'm looking for things I could do or have someone else do to my BM705.
I've heard fo putting Bronze washers in, why?
Also I'm looking to have bird's eye maple handles made. Who do people suggest and what would be the prices range for them.
Any comments welome,
Thank you

I don't know if this counts, but I have removed the SHARP edges on the top insides of the Zytel handles on ALL of my Cold Steel folders. With a tight grip, it felt a little uncomfortable. Now they all feel GREAT in my hand.

Thanks, I think sending the knife out for the scales will have to wait till tax return time.
Glockman, I am really interested in that kind of stuff. What kind of post heading would you suggest so I could get that kind of information.

Saberman.

Maybe, "Useful do-it-yourself knife customizations?"...

What I did, was I used a VERY sharp small Swiss-Army knife blade, used as a scraper (DON'T try to "slice" or cut), then I "finished" with 600 and 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper. It took the sharp edge off the Zytel handle in about 5 minutes.

I've discovered the best knives to start personalizing are knives with aluminum handles. Buy a cheaper knife to start with in case you muff it. With a Dremel tool you can start by engraving your enitials on it. I have a Junglee Sahara Jr, which is what I call the poor mans Emerson. One thing I didn't like about the knife, was that there are no reliefs cut into the handles, to better excess the thumb disc. With my Dremel, I lightly grinded away reliefs on each side of the disc. Then smoothed the reliefs with sanding wheels. I then went back to the corse grinding wheel, go lightly as usual, which gave the reliefs a stimple finish. This is popular on the front strape of 1911s. I've also engraved my enitials on the clip of the knife. This should give you some ideas to get started. As for my Junglee
, to my eyes it looks better, and is deffinately more user friendly. RKBA!
