Some Ideas about Disagreeing
If everyone agreed about a topic, discussions would probably be short and a little boring, but when two or more people are involved there will probably be two or more opinions and some disagreement. On this forum we aren’t talking about politics, religion, the meaning of life, etc… It’s nothing of earthshaking importance, just knives, so there isn’t any reason for people to work their blood pressure up. If you don’t agree with someone, there are effective ways to get your point across and some that will get you nowhere.
1) Stick to the topic.
2) Don’t be aggressive and don’t insult other people. Don’t tell people they don’t know what they are talking about. All of that will work against you.
3) Don’t tell people how much you know, just provide information and your opinion and let the facts speak for themselves.
4) Pay attention to what others say and if you disagree say something along the lines of, “I understand (or don’t understand) what you are saying, but here is why I think about it the way I do.”
5) If someone gets obnoxious, don’t respond in kind, and in some cases just walk away. In some instances it may be better not to get involved in the first place.
6) Don’t feel that a difference of opinion is some sort of contest that you have to win.
