All,

We have a trip scheduled June 4 thru June 14 to attend the official Peruvian Air Force jungle survival school (downed pilots survival school). This school consists of being picked up at the airport in Iquitos by the military, 2 days on base with theory instruction by the military, 3 days in the jungle hands-on experience, 1 day of cultural interaction with native people, and the last day is a graduation ceremony where participants are issued a certficiate of completion by the Peruvian Air Force.

The school covers the following:

Jungle survival, waterborne operations, trap and shelter construction, personal protection, interaction with indigenous cultures.

Personal equipment required: Mosquito net, small back pack, machete, flashlight. The military supplies all commo, transportation, food, and collectivo gear.

We will provide all translation.

This school is taught by active special operations instructors and is the officially sanctioned military jungle survival school for Peru.

Costs for this trip is $ 1850 and includes all airfare from Atlanta GA, costs of the school and tarnsportaion in-country.

We must have a $1000 deposit by April 15 is anyone wished to attend. Balance due at departure.

So far we have several magazines covering this trip, including Soldier of Fortune, Tactical Knives and others. A few of the registered participants are Jerry Vancook (Tactical Kines magazine), Newt Livesay (Livesay Combat knives), Rob Krott (SOF magazine), and myself.

Please advise via email if you are interested in attending.

Thanks,

Jeff

BTW: We just returned from Peru where we had a great experience exploring the Andes and Norther areas of the country.

What are the physical requirements? How far do you need to be able to run or walk? How much gear do you need to be able to carry? How far do you need to be able to swim?

Average physical shape will be sufficient.
Personal gear conists of a mosquito net, machete, flashlight, and small day pack. That's all you will be carrying.

No long distance swims will be required. Waterborne survival techniques will be taught using products of the jungle.

The school is a 'downed-pilot' jungle survival school taught by the Air Force of Peru. All theory is taught on base, then we are carried upriver in a military boat for a 3 day exercise and hands-on application in the jungle. Of course the instructors will be present throughout the whole training.

The classroom theory conists of:

1)Environmental characteristics of the Amazon region.
2)Basic priniciples of survival
3)Signaling
4)First Aid
5)Personal Protection
6)Obtaining food and water

Hands-on practice consists of:

1)Construction of shelter
2)Navigation in jungle
3)Proper use of a machete
4)Obtaining food and water
5)Trap Construction
6)Signaling
7)Improvised flotation
8)Rescue techniques
9)Working with indigenous people

As an added attraction Jerry VanCook will be teaching a class on offensive/defensive knife techniques. This class will be for both the Peruvian military instructors and students.

Looks like the dates may be changing on this to June 17th - June 27th. The reason for this is we're in negotiations with Discovery Channel about filming the trip and their film crew cannot make Peru until the 18th of June. It appears to be a done deal. I'll know for sure within a couple of days. Whether Discovery goes or not the trip is still a definite for June.

That trip sounds BAD A**! I'd love to go on something like that sometime! Do you think this opportunity will open up again at another time?

They wouldn't allow me to use my Khukuri, though would they? *L*

They've got us completely surrounded... The poor bastards!

David, the Commandante of the school has offered their services to us for future training trips.

After the initial school in June we will begin advertising dates for future classes with the military there. It looks as though these trips may turn into a combination parachute jump with the military in Lima, then transfer to Iquitos for jungle survival training. Rob Krott (SOF Magazine writer) and I are putting this whole package together. Rob's been doing worldwide friendship jumps for years so he's the expert on this end of the deal. Matter of fact, he's got a team jumping in Cuba as I type this.

We are also making arrangements with some US Special Forces veterans to run 1 week hard-core training trips in the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica.

We have pristine jungle, a super remote location and base camp, and several professional training experts signing on to this deal.

No political or legality problems with either of these trips since we have the blessings from the right folks in Costa Rica and official letters of invitation from the Peruvian military for these adventures.

The proposed Costa Rica adventure will be 2 days of jungle survival training, 2 days of 'accelerated' self defense tactics to include h2h, knife and stick. The rest of the training will be navigation, signaling, etc, and just plain fun.

More on this at a later date since it's still in the planning stages. We should have dates nailed down and be advertising the first trip at this year's SOF Convention.
