I would like to introduce you another Brazilian cutler. Francisco Petan interest in making knives goes back to 1987 when he finished his first bowie. Now, at the age of 62, Petean is dedicating more and more time to knife making. His shop is at the city called Birigui, hinterland of Sao Paulo state, in Brazil. The knife presented here is a hunter with strong Puukko influence. The sheath and the slabs are made of micarta and the blade is ATS-34. The total length is, when sheathed, 10 3/4". The blade measures 4 7/8". The blade thickness is 1/8". Note the delicate file work on top of the blade and also at the guard. The guard is nickel silver. This is one of a kind and is not for sale.

Mauro--

That's a very nice piece. Does Sr. Petean have a website, catalog or other means of viewing his work? Does he do custom business with individual US buyers?

By the way, does this blade have a secondary edge bevel, or does the primary grind go to the edge, as I understand is true of most Puukko's?

Thank you,
Will York

Petean is a good veteran maker and a real gentleman. He is one of the few makers I know who can sign a blade with his style alone and no matter what he makes - a bowie, a khukuri, a tanto or a puuko (and he has made them all) - it still says Petean all over it.
He has recently sent me a bunch of pictures to scan and we should have his site up at Cutelaria hoje in a month or so.

Keith,
- in the lack of a better word in my reduced vocabulary I described that as guard. Please, how would you call that? Thanks in advance.

Will,
- The first question is answered above by Ivan Campos.
- The second, about doing custom work for US clients, yes, he does.
- Third question: Yes, there's a secondary edge bevel.
I sent and email today to Spark asking him to upgrade my membership to "dealer". As soon as it is approved I will show you 6 pieces of Petean that I have in stock.

Mauro
