I recently purchased one of Peter Atwood's Micro Bug Out Blades. It is a small knife made of CPM 3V steel (OAL around 4"). It has a chisel type grind and a V type notch at the end (point). And although many recommend not putting a bevel on the back side of the chisel, Peter has a slight edge honed there. The knife came shaving sharp.
Last night I decided to cut some cardboard with it. It cut like a demon...really. I was very impressed with the way it held it's edge too.
So, my conclusion is that the chisel grind with the slight edge honed on the back is great for a hand held knife. I guess if the knife had to move in a fixed plane, the back edge would be a problem. Not for hand held cutting.
Very impressed. Peter is a great maker.
