Here is a little before and after on a knife I am quite fond of. I purchased it here in Portland Oregon about a year and a half ago from a cutlery store downtown. I was told that it was a knife by "Marker" from Townsville, North Carolina. The blade being marked "Marker, Townsville N. Q." I guess they thought the Q was a C. At any rate it was a Peter Marker knife from North Queensland Australia... quite a bit different. Townsville is a small harbor town in NE Australia in the Great Barrier Reef. I contacted Mr. Marker (markerknives.com) about the knife and was told that my pictures seemed to indicate that the damasteel blade had been later polished away from it's original etched finished. This was disappointing since I like original knives. BUT, it was quite attractive in it's current state so I kept it for awhile rather than send it back for a very long journey to Townsville for a facelift. I was talked out of the knife by a collector on the East coast in NY. He also kept it for nearly a year before deciding it wasn't for him. I realized I missed the knife and purchased it back. It was then (just recently) that I finally decided to take the Maker upon his offer and have the knife restored to it's original state. The knife spent about 1 month travelling air mail and about 1 day with the maker. But the result is as you see it... before and after. He also gave it a new thumbstud since he had a new design for that. Given all the attention I have given this knife, I doubt it is ever going anywhere again soon. It's a great knife... and well travelled:)
