While working at my belt grinder I was reminded of the words to this song(where have all my thumbnails gone, long time healing...) can't think of the title though.

It is better to bear the rebuke of a wise man than to enjoy the flattery of fools.

Thumbnails, fingernails ground off at the edge and at a slant, fingers overly sensitive to heat....

Get a magnet! It saves a bunch of the malodies of grinding! But then we don't have any "war wounds".

If only stag and wood were magnetic...

When you have found yours, please let me know the where abouts you located them. Maybe mine are in the same area?

Question to Mr. Wilkins: Sir;

What type of magnets and what size. I have considered the small pot magnets that are used in machine shops for holding tool guages in place with the 1/4-20 thread in the top. Are they what you are referring to?

Thanks in advance

Dav:
Sheffield Knife Supplies sells a 6" magnet which does a great job of holding a blade for flat grinding .

Got a magnet would'nt know what to do with out them. I was grinding the inside curve of the handle, last dull belt. The magnets I have were forstopping shavings from going into the oil pump of a deep hole gun drill. I think they come from Grainger or MSC. George I'll bet they go the same place half my socks went to.

Jerry,
Don't you have something for Tom to do around the shop like sweep up or something?
He's spending WAY too much time on the internet!!!

Yeah, Tom is on that darned 'puter just too much, but it's hard to get good help these days (not that Tom is of course).

Dav, K&G also has these magnets. They are made for knifemakers and are bar magnets imbedded in a wood handle. Without the wood, you'd still burn your hands and end up like Old Tom there.

Tom's just bitter. He probably thinks we should all have skeletal legs, too.

If you want good magnets for free like I got mine stop by your local car sterio installer or any other such sound instalation place all the old speakers that they throw in the garbage have big magnets in them.
I stopped using magnets for grinding and attached them to the metal base of my grinder as things vibrate around the metal shavings that avoid your dust collector move to where the magnets are making cleanup that much easier. does anyone know of a way to get all the metal shavings of a magnet without going to great trouble??
Why pay for anything you can get free?? Recycle!!!!

Put your magnet in a plastic bag and turn it inside out to clean. Shavings bagged and ready to go! I use the baggies that my wife has already used and is ready to throw away.
I'm really cheap, Lynn
