Hi everyone I saw a Peter Wright anvil at a barn sale near me its about 150 LB or more but has a new top welded to it. He is asking 150.00 is a resurfaced anvil a good investment? What are your thoughts thanks.

At $150, just about any anvil is a good deal. I would suggest checking the rebound, and if it is good take it.

I would forget it. No need to buy one with a new top on it that someone might or might not have done properly-- there are lots of big hunks of steel you can pick up to pound on while waiting for the right anvil to come along.

Like Stacey said, check the rebound, take a ruler, set it on the face vertically. drop a ball bearing from 12" and if it bounces back between 7-10" it's good to go!

Peter Wright's are one of the most desireable to collectors so if they did a good job with the resurface and it doesn't look much different from the original it's worth more than that as a patio decoration.

Hard to go wrong if you have the resources to sell it down the road.
