Hey guys,
Some time ago I contacted Peter_r for an aftermarket custom g-10 scale for a small sebenza and I wanted to have the rescue orange kind to match one of my watches and because I am and have always been totally into orange. I seem to have an orange knife everywhere in my house
Peter was very helpful and got the scale spot on, for which he went through some trouble since he didn't have the rescue orange yet. Very good service, kept his word on obtaining it and very helpful in answering my questions.
I got it fairly quickly from Canada after he made it (to the Netherlands in 4 days) in a small package and was very happy with how it looked when I opened the package. Orange rescue g-10, perfect color, matches the orange spyderco military and the hinderer xm-18 orange variant perfectly. The g-10 is very smooth, no blemishes anywhere, and follows the curves of the handle very well.
When zooming in on the details, the only thing I can notice is that the edges are not so pointy as the titanium scale, a little bit more rounded off and as such don't mirror the edge lines perfectly. They do however, follow the shape and the edge lines very well.
Putting the scale on provided some difficulty since the lanyard spacer hole was a little bit too small to fit in my lanyard spacer. But hey, I have knives to take care of that. The extra g-10 that was in the way of my lanyard fitting there was easily scraped out with some screwdriver like turns of a mnandi. After that, the scale fit perfectly.
G-10 on one side and titanium on the other will not have the same speed of wear. The g-10 side will wear quicker, something the guys who own strider sng's etc and use them a lot will probably know.
As for opening and closing, I feel the knife is pretty smooth and though it feels a littlebit different from a normal sebenza with titanium scales on both sides, it's very smooth and the tolerances are spot on. The difference in feel is not about the smoothness, but more about the fact that one half of the knife is now g-10. It still functions like a sebenza should
The pattern on the scale provides more tactile feedback than a normal sebenza when sliding up and down the handle, but is very smoothly made. I don't feel it provides extra grippines, but then again, I don't really need that on my small edc sebenza.
The orange gives an extra friendly look on the knife, but it never looks cheap, it's both the sebenza and the scale's look that still make it a knife where you can see and feel it's quality.
The screws are countersunk, nice job there. The screw of the back spacer sticks out a littlebit because there is a depression in the pattern of the scale there. Not noticeable except when you zoom in on the detail, I don't feel it at all when using the knife.
After having it for a couple of weeks it still opens very smoothly, I greased it with crk fluorinated grease only when I put it together. Thumbflicking is no problem at all and the knife bangs open pretty good.
Because of how the scale is patterned, it kind of has a tendency to pick up some stains. But this is very easily removed with just rubbing with your fingers or washing it up, spit helps too
Of course, the g-10 doesn't suffer, the color stays bright orange and there is no wear visible at all.
The color adds some visibility to the sebenza, it's definitely more obvious you're wearing it in your pants because of the orange scale (unless you're wearing orange spandex all of the time
)
I have to say I'm very happy both with the handle and with Peter's service and love the way this really opens up the way you pimp you own sebenza's.
Recently we have seen more pictures of him coming out here on the forum and I think if he continues like this he will definitely be a regular player here for aftermarket mods. I'm very curious to see if there's more variety coming up in the future.
Peter, awesome job, thanks!
Enough talking, let's see some pics!

you can see the curvature of the scale is slightly different in this picture
the pixelated effect is because of the quality setting used for exporting the photos (or uploading...)
