I have 3 does and 5 fawns that hang out at my place. Once in a while I see a buck in the yard. I go out and shake apples from my trees for them and give them a bowl of sheep pellets once in a while. When they see me with the bowl they will come pretty close about 20 feet. When I set it down and walk away they go for it. Let me closer all the time. I have had them just a couple feet from my windows and looking at me through the window. Woman who lives in the neighborhood said there were mountain lion tracks in her yard, so maybe I am creating a lion feeding station. LOL Never had a pet lion before. I live about 6 blocks the edge of town. The fastest way to the grocery is to skirt town and it is a about 1 1/2 miles that way. I have seen as many as 40 deer on the way to the store.

That is pretty cool, I love watching deer. You need to go ahead and name them quickly with the new law that is trying to get passed you will get 3500 dollar deduction for every pet you have and that is 2500 more than you will get having a kid. So name them quicklly. :)

Lets see, there is Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Supper, Fried, Roasted, Stew and of course Tasty. :D

I like the turn this thread took. I was thinking "I'd never buy meat again", but no, they are his "pets", best to keep my mouth shut...

But, yeah, they're beautiful creatures. And tasty too.

Hey, they are neat and interesting. I like to watch and study them. I wouldn't kill one of the ones that come in the yard, but, they are prey. I did think about doing a video where I was in camo whispering and talking of the difficulty of the hunt and then after shooting a deer with an arrow have the camera pan to show me in camoed pajamas shooting out my bedroom window. LOL My brother and I joke about putting a chain hoist in the old swing set on the place and putting the bowl under it. I would only feel guilty because I have got them to trust me. But then backstraps and eggs for breakfast can overcome a lot of guilt. LOL

I promise some more. Finally got the shop finished and about ready to go. This was taken from the breezeway between the shop and house. On the other side of the bushes in the back ground is a small pature surrounded by lilacs. Unfortunately, I will be delayed in photos and knife making as a Company I used to work for has offered me a 8 week job as a superintendent on a piping job and the $$ is to much to say no. PS, 2 bucks were in the yard yesterday courting the ladies.

There is a place in this world for all of God's creatures...right beside the mashed taters and gravy!

There are so many deer around here, I wouldn't have to take one of these. I won't be hunting until next year as I haven't been back in Montana long enough to get a resident license, was to late to apply for a real nonresident set up for bucks and elk. Anyone can buy several doe tags, but, nonresidents are $80 apiece. If I wait till next year a resident sportsman is $85 and includes: deer A, elk, and black bear license and authorizes fishing and hunting of upland birds, excluding turkey. Turkey is $6.50 for spring and fall and antelope is $19 and does permits are $10 each and you can get multiples of those depending on where you hunt them. Archery is extra, but you can hunt both archery and rifle. I will also start putting in for a moose permit every year. Hard to draw.

Montana story, I used to live the little town of Florence, there was a gas station/gun shop there ran by a guy everyone called Rhino. Every year Rhino, a hard core hunter, put in for a moose. There used to be a deal where residents who applied for 5 years in a row and didn't get one were moved to a special drawing with a much higher success rate. Rhino was on this list and should have got drawn in the next few years. Some out of stater sued the fish and game and got the list declared illegal. So he was out of luck. Worse, yet Rhino was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor the next summer. That fall Rhino loads up and goes over on the Ruby river where there are lots of moose and shoots a big ass bull moose without a tag. Didn't try to hide it and drove home with the whole thing in the back of an open pickup. Everyone knew what was going on, even the game wardens. Their comment, Nice moose Rhino. What are you going to do to a deadman walking anyway? Way to go and RIP Rhino

Good, but sad story, Jim. Nice to see local people and authorities using common sense and decency when it comes to discression of enforcement.

Someone aught to pay that schmuck who brought the lawsuite a visit.

Looking forward to seeing more of your place, BTW. It looks absolutely beautiful! I think if anyplace ever called me away from Texas, it might be Montana.
