Hi guys,

I recently finished this petty. This is my latest and best work achived as of now. Not perfect of course, but learning and working on improving my skils. There is always the next one.

Here are the specs:
  • AEB-L at 62 HRC
  • 170mm edge
  • 40mm heel
  • Handle is African black wood and maple, stainless spacers, octagonal/oval combined shape (top and bottom are rounded), I guess we could call it “octoval”, just made that up 😃
  • Concave curved shaped spine to add in knuckles relief with a pinch grip style, just experimenting
  • Spine is mirror finished and rounded
  • Choil is beveled for comfort. Could have rounded it, but I thought I would try a more angular look this time
All feedback welcomed!

Thanks again for your support and guidance,
Constantin

a little thick for a petty IMO, but I'm guessing it's the available stock size for you
nevertheless, nice work,
Yes, I started with a bit thicker stock. I also kept the distal taper minimal so I could achieve a neutral balance based on chosen wood handle.

It is a solid petty, but feels good in the hand, 118g.

I agree, next one I will start with a thinner stock.

I’m waiting for the US border to open up, so I can stock up on more steel.

Thank you for your feedback.

Very, very well done. Just one comment ( sorry 😔). I personally am not a fan of the “raised handle” design. It makes sense if you only wrap your fingers around the handle, but with a true “pinch grip” you hold onto the blade itself, and your other fingers really do not wrap around the blade, instead the handle just kind of rests against your palm. If the handle is tilted upwards it pushes against the palm too much, and actually reduces flexibility of movement. Whether it works really depends on how you actually end up holding the knife.

Otherwise that is a beautifully executed build. I LOVE the Wa handle design!

Thank you for your comment, nothing to be sorry about, I appreciate all feedback, there is always something new for me to learn.

Yeah, I probably won’t make the raised handle design too much, it is just an experiment for me to see if it makes a real difference in comfort.
