Hi,
Would a pfaf 262 work for sewing sheaths made of 8/9 oz veggie tan? I see one that is in pretty good condition for sale close to me for $400.

I have only sewn sheaths by hand, so I don't know anything about the thickness of thread that works in these machines.

Thanks in advance for your help.

One thing I've noticed about some of these machines is that the presser foot is limited on some models. Take the thickest of your sheaths and measure it, then go measure the highest the presser foot will rise. Then you'll know if you can use it or not. The price is definitely right!
The machine will also need a large motor, a smaller one designed for canvas wont be strong enough to punch the leather.

I had a minute last night and was trying to find that info out on the presser foot lift for this machine. Didn't find out, but that really is the question with any machine. Ya want more lift than you are gonna sew too by the way. Ya want to be able to position your project underneath easily and not have the teeth chew stuff up. I'd be hesitant at how well this machine would work for sheath work but it would probably be great for inlays, linings, chaps work and all kinds of leather jobs just not sheaths.

I was having a hard time finding info about the machine too. So basically I need the foot to lift high enough to put my project under it easily and I want a strong enough motor to be able to punch the needle through the leather. I have enough experience with electric motors that I could change the motor if it isn't strong enough.
Last question, what about thickness of thread that it can handle? I don't know how thread is measured and I am not sure what thickness of thread I would use to sew a sheath. I just know I used a thick waxed thread when I hand sew.

I am excited to be able to start doing inlays.

For inlays probably 138 or lighter 69 for sheaths 207 top and bottom.
