"PG" Platinum Vs Gold

I have been considering becoming a gold member to sell some of my collection. I was browsing the payment options and saw the description of the "PG" Platinum membership. I did not know we had any areas more adult than the pirates cove, which I do not plan to browse, and do not care to know anymore about them. I do not wish to pay for access to any of these so called "adult" areas. I am only here for the knives. Does gold grant access to any of these "adult" areas? If so, I will strongly reconsider purchasing a membership.

Gold grants access to the Politics and Pirate's Cove subforums, yes. I could probably do without both myself.

There are no further "adult" forums to be gained than the pirates cove, which can be accessed by even a basic membership. The only reason to purchase a PG membership would be if you had someone else in your home that might get on the computer and see something you'd rather they didn't. That and maybe if a person had poor self control.👿

^ They may call areas like the W&C and PC, "adult," but I can assure you one thing: the people who spend insane amounts of their precious time while living here on Earth; posting their vile, immature, ridiculous attacks on other member's here, do not behave like adults. They're actually more like "children" or "tantrum throwing" sub-forums...

They should be along momentarily...

And to answer your question: the Gold membership does grant one access into the so called "adult," sub-forums.

I too, am only here for the knives...and whatever knowledge I'm able to glean in between the incessant trolling that unfortunately has become rampant in the General Knife Discussion sub-forum.

Best of luck! :)

I don't want to fight anyone. Can't understand why people want to. My objection is to XXX material, if you get my drift. Is pirates cove home to that kind of junk?

And politics forum, yeach.

You have to have a Gold in order to sell. That's all you need. If you have minors in your household and are logged on to BFC, then yes you may want the PG membership, if not gold is fine. You always have the choice which sub forum you visit. It's that simple.
Yes, the Cove has adult conversations if you get my drift.

Insecurity and self-loathing, which is fleetingly assuaged by denigrating others. I know how it works, because I hear it from my mother on the phone. She was the middle child, never felt like she was a special one (not the oldest nor the youngest), and her brain was wired at a young age to insult others as a means of temporarily - and falsely - feeling superior to others. The feeling she never got as a child. It happens here too, and you see it out in the real world all of the time. Those who constantly argue and insult are the least secure among us.

I'm the reason that PG Platinum was implemented a few years ago, btw. I lodged a complaint that when you hit "New Posts", some of the links that popped up were not appropriate for my then-younglings to see if they walked past the computer while I was looking at BF. Spark was nice enough to create the PG Platinum level for folks like me. My sons are now 15 and 19 years old, the latter away at college, so this is no longer an issue for me. But I've always remembered what Spark did back then.

If you are truly concerned about what you may find there, then by all means get a PG membership. It is true that it is much less censored (in all respects of the word) than the rest of the forum, but it is pretty simple not to click on the links you may see if they concern you.

Bladeforums is well worth the membership, considering all the knowledge and resources available. I mean how often can you interact directly with representatives of the knife companies we enjoy so much? Not to mention all of the friendships made, even if some of them (us) inhabit the more "children" forums.

As mentioned, Pirates Cove is the adult area the PG Platinum description refers to. There aren't any others that you can't see as a registered user besides the Political Arena and posts in the Wanted to Buy and Maker WTB Exchange sections. Every paid membership besides PG Platinum grants access to the Pirates Cove forum.

As for XXX in PC, not really. Certainly nudity, but typically more akin to what one would see in "classier" (for lack of a better term) mens' magazines.

Is this thread about access levels, or is it about your opinion and vendetta about a handful of members that you don't like because they call you out on trolling bullshit like what you're doing right now? Because it seems to me the OP was simply asking about access levels. Butting in with your opinion on an unrelated subject just to continue to bitch, bitch, bitch about the same hypocritical bullshit that you've been spewing about (and have, to my count 20 recently received and currently active infraction points) is unasked for, unnecessary, unwanted, off-topic, corrosive, and just plain tired and boring. One might call it tantrum throwing by a child.

To answer (or reanswer) the OP's post, W&C is where foul language, trolling, the dozens, PG-13 (and maybe pushing that) and that sort of stuff happens. The Pirate's Cove is where there's less rules. Both forums contain some jerks, some friends who will do anything for each other and is a tight-knit community, and some of both combined. Gold membership is required to sell. The PG Platinum membership blocks (apparently, but there might be a glitch with that) those forums. If you're trying to protect your younginns from naughty stuff, or there's some logging/tracking stuff at your work that might get you in trouble, that might be the better route. Otherwise, Gold should be fine, just remember to log out. If you're trying to sell something, list your email address (doesn't need to be your primary one, you can always created a new one for just this purpose), and set up email notifications with the forum software when somebody replies to your thread.

Good heavens, Planterz, a child may read your foul words. A child!

Hmm....I think the mods do a fine job in curtailing the trolling in General, sorry to hear you don't.

If you don't want to see stuff in certain subforums don't go there. It really is simple. Buy the gold membership and enjoy the benefits including selling but just don't go where you do not want to go. Self control is a beautiful thing

It was nice of Spark to accommodate the above member with the PG membership however I would have simply not chosen to enter the forum that way (still don't), so no undesirable thread titles could be seen. Further, if you need a PG membership to protect your kids from certain subforums here I think you should be more worried about the rest of the internets as it is far worse than anything ever posted on BFC.

With all due respect, this line of thinking is a tad silly and I think that you are coming to this decision from the wrong angle.

Instead of thinking of the Gold membership as access to certain areas that you don't even have to go, think of it like a state issued drivers license.

I have a drivers license because it offers me easy access to a needed service, transportation. A Gold membership grants you access a different kind of useful (albeit not necessary) service, the ability to sell your knives on the biggest knife forum on the planet, among other perks like PM's, a sig line etc.

Another perk to both a drivers license and a Gold Membership is that I can pretty much go and do whatever I like within each's sphere of existence that is within the law and rules.

Just because my drivers license will grant me the ability to enter a strip club or other smutty place does not make for a good excuse not to get one.

If you are considering a membership you must like this place well enough. I'd suggest going for whichever suits your needs.

I wanted to add some tidbits about avoiding forums you don't want to browse in.

1. Don't click the New Post or What's New tabs and instead click on the forums that you want to actually visit to view threads.

2. If you do want to see new threads from various forums don't click the New Posts or What's New tabs. Instead, while you are logged in, go to the actual Bladeforums home page (not the Forum Home tab). Go to or type this link into your browser.http://www.bladeforums.com/ The home page will line up all the newest post in chronological order right down the center and will exclude both Whine & Cheese and PC. For me there's an added bonus as it's easier on the eyes to view it this way.

Also, regarding the forbidden destinations, they are for the most part exactly what you make of them. There is mud slinging and booty to be had yet if that is not something you want to partake in then don't. It's quite easy actually.

To compare with movies, I would give Whine & Cheese right around a PG-13 rating, give or take a bit. PC is a solid, at times light hearted R. No XXX at all, unless you consider PlayBoy of old XXX. Surprisingly enough each can be as PG as any other forum.

Now that is neat. It even welcomes you!

I'll also add one place that gold lets you go to that many have no interest. That is the Political Arena. :barf: I've posted there a couple times but I find it, well, political. Just like my Sports Radio I don't like my knives mixed with politics. Ruins the fun. I don't want to go there and my Gold membership doesn't make me. So guess what, all have to do is not go there. Easy :)
