Maybe we can paraphrase --

Blessings on thee, ancient man
ragged shoes and face of tan (due to sunspots)
And so on

I get the feeling no customer ever goes away without feeling totally delighted with Uncle Bill's business conduct :D

I saw 12 replies to this PGA and wondered where the thread traveled to...then I learned that it stayed on target....wierd ;)

It's the very low cost of labor that makes these prices possible and sometimes I feel very guilty about this -- but then I rationalize it all away by thinking about what other Nepali kamis earn -- and to ad icing to the cake I think about what Chinese factory workers earn.

Rome wasn't built in a day -- or even two.

True. For the quality of the work and the immense experiece of the makers, these knives would cost much, much more if made by an American smith. I'm pretty sure I would not be able to afford a khukuri like that even if I could, I'd think twice about chopping down trees with a $1000+ knife...

But, the low prices DO make these great tools available to the average working guy who likes knives. Affordable enough that we can get a couple of them and not be afraid to use them. Even at the standard prices, these knives are an absolute bargain for handmade work. With Pala's 20% discount, they blow all other offerings out of the water.

Yeah! Himalayan Imports, where real khuks are made for real users!

The pay is poor but there's a few perks --

Pala visited the thrift stores about twice a week while he was here sorting through clothes for the BirGorkha crew and their families. This is what precipitated the purchase of the biggest suitcase he could find -- and it was very, very heavy when he left.

Some items which stand out in my mind in the assortment of gifts were beads from New Orleans Mardi Gras which the kaminis will fight over. Six T-shirts with Fire Dept. logo from city back east. T-shirt with Texas Instruments logo express mailed to us from a nice nephew down in Texas . Several baseball type caps with various logos (Sanu will grab these.)

In all enough stuff so that everybody gets at least one gift (remembering Kesar has 20 people!!!!!!) and some will get more

In addition $500 cash to be distributed at Pala's discretion (based on both worth and need) which was generated right here on this forum and a couple of hundred sent personally by me.

It'll be Christmas in Nepal in a week or two!!!!
