I am looking forward to comparing this one to the 23 ounce BGRS that I ordered just before Easter. I've not seen one of these khukuris in the flesh but for some reason their shape in the pictures appeals to me.
I also know that Yvsa has a high opinion of this style of khukuri and that means a lot. I'll write my comparison up on the Cantina when both have arrived.
Glenn you've purchased two of the absolute nicest khukuris H.I. has in their lineup.
Your son will fall in love with the BGRS. If you're hanging on to the standard GRS work it for a while and then order yourself a nice standard YCS.
And don't worry about working a pretty khukuri.
That's half the allure of the YCS and contributes a great deal to the feeling you will get when you use it.
Then you will fall in love all over again yourself. After working the GRS for a while the YCS will feel like a feather in your hand and will fly through 3" wood in a way that will absolutely fascinate you.

As I've said in the past here, "People all over the world from time immemorial have decorated certain personal tools and weapons and did that to bring certain powers that enabled them to enjoy the special tools more than ones not decorated."
The YCS has 2 natural metals in the design as well as the Four Directions and on the Original also the Seven Directions in the 7 pointed star for a keeper.
None of my other YCS's have the 7 pointed star so I guess it was meant to be.
Besides the 7 pointed star is much more difficult to make than the even pointed ones.

Dayumed kamis!!!!
