Thanks for all the comments guys. Sorry about the delay in posting between work and hunting I haven't had a ton of Internet time. sorry about the thread neglect.
I will be in South Dakota Nov.1 -7 killing birds!!!! I save most of my vacation time for bird season. I hunt every weekend from opener to close! I might get to hunt Montana next year! We usually hunt the panhandle of Oklahoma and all through Kansas and up to South Central Nebraska and Quail hunt in panhandle of Texas. Busy time of the year for me! Nice pics BTW!
Infocus, I'm very jealous of your Dakota trip.. Been wanting to do that for years. I know they are Hardy birds there!
Good luck and post pics of your trip. Love to see them and hear about the trip. I wish you wonderful trip!
Geez, we got another month to wait here out West. :grumpy: You guys are allowed to harvest hens up there? That's a BIG no-no out here! And let me get this straight; your birds up there are
stupid?

Must not be the same species, because the ones out here in CO, KS, and NE are smart as heck.
Everywhere I hunt if you kill a hen you labeled "bob the hen killer" and you can get in big trouble. Not saying I haven't ever hit one by accident in my 20 years of bird hunting but you never live it down when you do with the guys I hunt with. The pheasant I hunt are far from stupid! I have seen a rooster run in a badger hole or a jack rabbit hole to avoid a dog or hunter. I don't think I would like hunting stupid birds because it would take the fun out of it.
A couple guys asked if you can legally kill hens here?..... Yes, both male and female are legal because they are stocked birds much the same reason why they are not so bright. So no stigma to kill a hen here.
thinking about it......"Jeff the hen killer" sounds more like a compliment than an insult to me lol
So it's us eating the dopes or The coyotes, raccoons, hawks, eagles or owls eat them.
I call them dumb but I really should should say lacking in "instinct" they still have wings and legs and usually won't let you get too close.
as the wild ones have better" instinct" but aren't "smart"....running into a badger hole when you are a pheasant doesn't appear "smart" to me lol sounds like fast food for the badger to me

secondly if birds were smart calling someone a "birdbrain" would be a compliment not an insult right?? lol
I had a stocked one up here squeeze himself into a hole in a stonewall once....didn't end well for him as the dog pulled him out by his tail feathers lol
Sad to say our domestic pheasant population is no more.
We do have domestic partridge and woodcock which are real fast and more skidish so they are more if a challenge.
The rabbit and snow show hare are also nice and fast. The end of the day a bad day of hunting or fishing beats a good day at work right?
Regards Jeff Ps this was me this morning....so no "Jeff the Hen Killer" today right??
