I had the pleasure of handling a few Boguszewski flippers at Blade this year for the first time, specifically the Cobra. I never previously felt compelled to handle custom knives that much as it made me feel much the same as I would imagine it feels to walk around a Ferrari showroom, awkward, drooling, and out of place. However, as I'm sure a fair few of you can attest, the action on these flippers is literally indescribable, they simply have to be opened to be understood. I have three questions I hope will be answered:

1. Does Phil have an email address he can be reached at? If asking for this is a violation of forum rules, I apologize, please forgive me, I'm unfamiliar with etiquette over the computer. I participate rarely and read considerably and almost exclusively for content.

2. What other knifemakers are capable of achieving the kind of action that his knives are capable of? I'm simply curious to peruse the internet to educate myself on who these men (or women) are and where they work. I live in South Carolina and would be interested if any of them are within driving distance and if they ever host an open shop.

3. Where can I find a list of knife shows in the southeast? I've only been to Blade as it is not a considerable drive.

Thanks for your help and forgive my name, I asked a younger friend of mine to subscribe me to an internet forum and I absentmindedly neglected to check my name.

If you look in the back of the Knives Annuals there is a directory, you can call Phil, he answers his phone.

Most makers don't host an "open" shop, but many are happy to have a potential buyer drop by with an appointment....again, picking up the telephone works. Any maker worth buying from that uses a Ikama/Korth bearing system, IKBS, is producing a very, very smooth action.

Not sure where to help you on the Southern shows, AG Russell has an event coming up real soon, though.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Welcome to the forums doodoofly . Phil Boguszewski makes some of the best folders around. His folders command a high price. I don't believe he uses a ball bearing system (like IKBS) but his folders are just as smooth. There are many other makers that make excellent flippers like RJ Martin, Todd Berg, Larry Chew, etc. . A relatively new maker I recommend is Gus Cecchini ( GTC Knives ). He used a different ball bearing pivot than IKBS. Good luck in your search.
